Medicine just changed a name that was getting it wrong for decades. And it matters more than you think. PCOS a condition affecting 1 in 8 women has officially been renamed PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome), published in The Lancet this week following a 14-year global study involving 22,000 patients and clinicians worldwide. The old name told the world it was about ovarian cysts.
The new name tells the truth, it's about hormones, metabolism, mental health, skin, fertility, and so much more. 70% of women with PMOS are still undiagnosed. Not because the condition is rare, but because for years, even the name was misleading them.
Swipe through to understand what changed, what it means, and why it matters for every woman in the UAE.
