🥗 Eat more fibre-rich foods
🍎 Fill your plate with fruits and vegetables
🌾 Choose wholegrains
🫘 Include beans, lentils, and legumes
🥩 Limit red and processed meats
🚶 Stay active and maintain a healthy weight

Bowel cancer often develops without obvious symptoms in its early stages, which is why screening is so important.

⭐BLUEBERRY CHIA JAM RECIPE⭐

This recipe is so simple, delicious and gut friendly that I thought I should share it with you! Serves 4.

Ingredients:
2 cups frozen blueberries
2-3 tbsp chia seeds
1-2 tbsp maple syrup

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a small heavy-based saucepan and place on stove on medium heat. As the fruit softens, lightly mash with a fork to release some of the juices. Bring to a gentle boil and then remove from heat. Allow to cool and thicken. Serve on top of freshly made porridge or sourdough toast. Enjoy!

🫐Blueberries are low in calories, high in fibre and vitamin C and an excellent source of polyphenols which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
🥣Chia seeds are a great source of fibre, protein and omega 3 fatty acids.

Let me know if you try it!

⭐WHAT IS DIETARY FIBRE & WHY IS IT GOOD FOR HEALTH⭐

At my Gut Health Workshop last weekend someone asked me what fibre is. It made me realize that although I bang on about fibre all the time, not everyone can relate!

If you are also unsure what fibre is or think it's only found in prunes, bran and Metamucil, this post is for you!

Even if you do know about fibre, read on for some key information that may help you boost your intake because most Australian's are not getting enough of this key nutrient. This fibre deficit is a key driver of increasing rates of chronic disease.

If you need support to improve your fibre intake and reap the health benefits, I am here to help so check out my website for more info: https://eatplantsforhealth.com.au/

⭐4 GUT HEALTHY PROTEIN & FIBRE RICH BREAKFAST IDEAS ⭐

Everywhere I turn I hear people banging on about protein and how important it is for good health and how we need more. However, the majority of Australian's already consume more than adequate amounts of protein without even trying!!!

Protein is a key macronutrient that we need in our diet to thrive however, what really frustrates me is that very few people are talking about the importance of PROTEIN SOURCE!

Protein not only comes from animal sources e.g., meat, fish, dairy, eggs. It is also FOUND IN ALL PLANT FOODS to varying degrees including fruits (to a lesser extent), vegetables, whole grains, legumes (including tofu), nuts and seeds.

Unfortunately, when people are told they need to increase protein, they often reach for animal sources and research shows that for optimal long-term health benefits (not just short-term gains), we need to be getting the MAJORITY of our PROTEIN FROM PLANT sources!

When we reach for more protein from animal sources, we may inadvertently reduce our FIBRE intake, and this is a nutrient that the majority of Australian's fall short on! Animal protein contains ZERO fibre so this is not great for gut health, our beneficial gut microbes requiring adequate fibre to thrive and in turn support our health.

So, instead of reaching for steak (I heard this suggested by a nutritionist on a podcast recently 😫) or eggs for breakfast, why not consider my gut healthy PROTEIN AND FIBRE rich plant-based breakfast ideas instead. Simple and speedy to make and supper tasty.

Give me a delicious, colourful smoothie bowl over steak any day! 😅

Note: protein & fibre calculations are estimates only, calculated using Cronometer.
