Let govt know!
I’m trying to understand how anyone could believe cutting down 585 trees in our Park Lands is acceptable.
Join us tomorrow at Parliament House at 5:15pm to show our government we’re not going to put up with their oppressive government anymore!!!
These are not just “trees” they are living parts of our environment, our history, our wildlife habitat, and our community’s identity. Many of these magnificent trees would have taken 40–50 years or more to grow to this size and are still considered young, with the ability to live for well over 100 years. Once they are gone, they cannot simply be replaced by planting saplings. It would take generations, enormous amounts of water, care, and money to even come close to restoring what is being lost. How can any government be so clueless and irresponsible???
These trees provide shade, clean air, cooling for our city, homes for wildlife, and natural beauty that people have enjoyed for decades. They are part of the soul of our Park Lands. Countless birds, possums, insects, and other wildlife rely on these spaces for survival, yet reports are already emerging about injured and displaced wildlife, while wildlife carers are allegedly being denied access to help. How is protecting a golf course being prioritised over protecting living ecosystems?
And beyond the environmental loss, there is also the deep cultural and historical significance of this land. Our Park Lands hold Indigenous history, heritage, stories, and legacy that deserve respect and protection not destruction. These landscapes carry meaning far beyond recreation. They connect people to Country, to nature, and to generations before us.
People are not angry because they dislike sport. They are angry because 585 mature trees, wildlife habitats, cultural heritage, and irreplaceable natural beauty are being sacrificed for something that simply does not justify this level of destruction. Future generations deserve better than to inherit a city stripped of its majestic trees and biodiversity because of short-sighted decisions made today.
Protect our wildlife. Protect our heritage. Protect our Park Lands. Protect the 585 trees before more irreversible damage is done.
