Let’s shake up how we look at private practice growth. 💥
There’s a deeply ingrained myth in allied health that running a business should feel exactly like clinical work—heart-centered, completely selfless, and focused purely on the care. But when you apply clinical thinking to business operations, you end up with an administrative mountain that never shrinks and a practice that drains your energy.
Here’s the reality shift we need to talk about: Your education taught you to be a clinician, not a CEO. Never looking at the numbers, not spending time on systems or continuing to move your boundaries is the fastest route to burnout. You cannot build a sustainable team or scale your impact if your business machine is constantly losing momentum behind the scenes.
Because strategy is in my blood, I don’t look at your practice through a clinical lens. I look at it in a way that allows for you to redefine industry expectations. My focus is entirely on objective data, automated operations, and ease—the exact elements that protect your sanity and your bottom line.
If you’re ready to ditch the "always done it this way" mindset and try an innovative approach that leads to actual, predictable profit and systems - then follow me! I’ve got the goods.

One of the most important financial assets you'll ever own.

And possibly one of the most overlooked.

While many of us regularly check our bank accounts, review household budgets and compare insurance premiums, superannuation often gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

Not because it isn't important.

Because life gets busy.

The latest APRA data is a timely reminder of the significant role super plays in Australia's financial future.

For many Australians, their superannuation will help fund decades of retirement.

Which is why taking the time to understand where you stand today can be so valuable.

A quick review now may help you make more informed decisions for the years ahead.

When was the last time you checked your super?

Anticipating external risks to community safety and privacy is a vital part of supporting vulnerable humans.

The Australian Government is officially transitioning to AusAlert—a new, $132 million national emergency warning system utilizing advanced cell-broadcast technology. While designed to provide fast, life-saving notifications during natural disasters (like bushfires or floods) and public health crises, the upcoming mandatory system testing poses an immediate, severe risk to Domestic Violence (DV) victim-survivors who maintain hidden or backup safety phones.

Please review the comprehensive breakdown below to help integrate these critical updates into immediate safety planning.

🔍 The Tech Spec: Why 'AusAlert' Overrides Normal Settings
Unlike the older SMS-based alerts, AusAlert broadcasts directly to all compatible devices within a specific geographic radius.

The Override: During a "Critical" alert, the system bypasses any user settings. Even if a device is set to Silent, Do Not Disturb, or has no SIM card active, it will still trigger.

The Response: When the alert lands, the mobile device will vibrate violently, force the screen to turn on displaying a non-dismissible message, and play a loud, distinct siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds.

The Display: Depending on the handset or operating system, the notification header may display as "AusAlert Test," "Presidential Alert," or "Extreme Threat Alert."

📅 The Testing Schedule (Mark Your Calendars)
The government is conducting localized trials this month to test regional and urban network grids, culminating in a massive nationwide test.

The Nationwide Test
📍 All of Australia: Monday 27 July 2026 at 2:00 PM AEST (1:30 PM ACST / 12:00 PM AWST). Approximately 90% of all active mobile phones in Australia will receive this simultaneous transmission.

🛠️ Actionable Safety Planning: Vital Protocols to Share
If you are currently supporting clients navigating coercive control or abusive environments where a hidden phone is their lifeline, please share these critical protocol steps immediately:

Power Down Completely: Simply silencing the backup phone or turning the volume down will not work. The device must be powered completely OFF or placed strictly into Aeroplane Mode.

The 24-Hour Rule: Because network broadcast testing windows can slightly fluctuate, safety experts recommend putting hidden devices into Aeroplane Mode or powering them off at least 1 hour before the test, and leaving them off for a full 24 hours.

Turn On Away From Home: Advise individuals to wait until they are physically away from the perpetrator (e.g., at work, running errands, or in a public space) before turning the safety device back on, just in case a delayed broadcast or notification glitch triggers a sound.

Enact a Contingency Plan: Ensure clients have an emergency "go-bag" packed with essential documents, keys, and cash, and have a clear escape route rehearsed in the event a hidden device is accidentally discovered.

The truth about why diaries are empty is a little uncomfortable… but it needs to be said.

Clinicians aren’t building the scaffolding needed to keep the clients in therapy.

Clinicians are conditioned to “fix” the client in the number of sessions that Medicare has decided to pay.

Clinician’s have a blase response to clients who call and say “i’m feeling better cancel all of my future appointments.”

Clinician's have been taught symptom reduction is the key to outcomes.

Clinicians place too much emphasis on getting new clients and no emphasis on their responsibility to close off episodes of care.

Want to peek behind the curtain and see what a day at Private Practice Alliance is really about?

It’s not just about what’s on the to-do list, it’s about the way we choose to work.

How we show up, how we build, how we lead.

☕️ We start the day with a quiet cuppa and a clear head, not just for us, but for the hundreds of clinicians and teams we support.

🤝 Collaboration kicks off early. Whether it’s breaking down your caseload chaos or tweaking a KPI dashboard, we don’t do this work alone.

✨ Creativity gets woven in throughout. That might look like a strategy whiteboard session mid-walk, a cheeky voice memo between dog walks, or a new analogy that brings clarity to a stuck system.

📈 By the afternoon, it’s implementation time - making sure the strategy we talked about is actually happening in your practice.

And by the end of the day?

We remind ourselves that this work isn’t just about profitability or process.

It’s about helping humans make connections as a practice owner or the employee.

That’s the kind of culture we’re cultivating: one sustainable, empowered decision at a time.

Trigger Warning:

Are we still pretending that the system isn’t broken? Are we still pretending that the us vs them hasn’t rocked the industry?

Are we still pretending that the communication breakdown of the generations aren’t impacting our everyday work life?

Are we still pretending that folks are entitled when in reality they are just asking for a better work condition? [One, which I might add, was actually demanded of every single generation before us].

Are we still pretending that neurotypical business strategies are going to work for us?

Are we still pretending that we aren’t holding all of the emotional and cognitive load of building a culture and in doing so, spreading fear and instability in our businesses?

Are we still pretending that the only people responsible for culture is the practice owner?

Are we still pretending that we’re trying when we stonewall conversations while shouting, but I’m trying to communicate and I’m not being heard!

Are we still pretending that there are secrets that can’t be shared out of fear of scarcity?

Are we still pretending that some of the men in this field haven’t SA us at conferences?

Are we still pretending there is nothing we can do about the toxicity of the industry?

Are we still pretending by splitting and dividing we’re conquering?

Are we still pretending that the capitalistic way of running a business is the only way to run a practice?

Let’s be honest - most small businesses lose money on Black Friday. Or you’ve spent money on Sh*t you aren’t going to use.

But we keep playing along, hoping the algorithm throws us a bone.
Enough.

We’re here for the long game:

We’re spending the week resting, reconnecting, and reminding folks:

You are not a commodity.

Compassion Without Structure is Self-Sabotage

Many practice owners wear the operational consequences of underperformance themselves.

Not because they don't recognise the issue.

But because addressing it feels uncomfortable, time-consuming, or at odds with being a supportive leader.

The challenge is that unresolved performance issues don't remain isolated to one team member.

They impact team morale, service delivery, operational efficiency, and ultimately the sustainability of the practice.

Someone always absorbs the cost.

Too often, it's the practice owner.

Working longer hours.
Putting out more fires.
Carrying more responsibility.
Sacrificing their own capacity to keep the peace.

Compassion is a critical leadership trait.

But compassion without structure, accountability, and clear expectations doesn't protect your people or your practice.

It simply transfers the burden elsewhere.

The most successful practice owners understand that accountability is not the opposite of compassion.

It's what allows compassion to be effective.

💬 We'd love your perspective:

What's one leadership lesson you've learned about balancing compassion and accountability within your practice?

Stop expecting your clinic to run smoothly on a "survival mindset."

When financial stress hits, the default response for most practice owners is to chase more revenue—more clients, more hours, more hustle.

You think: "If I just bring in more money, I'll finally get that peace of mind."

But that’s an illusion.

More revenue without structural foundations just creates a louder, more chaotic version of the exact same practice. If you are constantly putting out operational fires, you aren't scaling; you are just burning out.

In honor of UN Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day, let’s shift the narrative from endless growth to sustainable structure. True resilience requires a human-first approach to business operations:

- A spending plan to manage cash flow fluidly, rather than fighting a restrictive, rigid budget. The beautiful shares her idea around the Spending Plan visit her at -
- An onboarding framework to upskill new team members efficiently, acknowledging that standard multi-year retention models have shifted.
- A fixed owner salary because your financial and emotional well-being is the actual baseline of your clinic’s success.

Revenue pays the bills, but structure is what turns daily business stress into a predictable strategy.

Your clinic is unique—stop trying to run it using generic advice from social media strangers. Let’s look at the math and mechanics behind your operations.

Many practice owners believe they're being compassionate when they absorb the consequences of an underperforming team member.

They stay late to finish the work.

They lower expectations to avoid conflict.

They quietly compensate for missed responsibilities to keep things running smoothly.

But underperformance doesn't disappear simply because it's tolerated.

The cost is still paid.

In lost productivity.
In reduced team accountability.
In leadership fatigue.
And in the opportunities your practice never gets to pursue because your time and energy are being spent elsewhere.

This isn't an argument against compassion.

It's an argument for structure.

Because compassion without clear expectations, accountability, and follow-through doesn't create a healthier practice.

It creates a dependency on the practice owner to carry the load.

The most effective practice leaders understand that compassion and accountability are not competing priorities.

They're complementary responsibilities.

One supports people.

The other protects the practice.

And sustainable leadership requires both.

💬 We'd love your perspective:

Where do you think the line is between supporting a team member and enabling underperformance?
