Last month we contributed to the Oakleigh State School's inaugural "Oakleigh on the Green" fundraising event 🍏

We were one of a wide team of local businesses who came together to support Oakleigh on the Green, as they were able to raise $19,000 for the State School's P&C Association 🎉👏

Supporting local events and community initiatives such as Lions Club Community Connector, St Finbarr's Garden Party, Sponsored Jersey's for kids football teams, and Oakleigh on the Green, allows us to give back to our community, and extend our commitment to care beyond the walls of our practice 🤝💚

The Optos, an Ultra-widefield (UWF™) Retinal Imaging Device, can take a 200° FOV (field of view) photo of your retina in a single shot! This powerful technology enables us to discover, diagnose, document and treat ocular issues quickly and accurately 👁️✅

Types of conditions an Optos image can help identify:
- Retinal Detachment
- Macular Degeneration
- Ocular Hemorrhage
- Diabetic Retinopathy

World Environment Day 2026 is on this Friday the 5th of June 🌿

We believe in contributing to a sustainable future and are committed to supporting and implementing eco-conscious brands and mindful industry practices!

Brands such as Project Green, Zeal, Marc Vincent and Tom Ford offer frames made from either biodegradable or recycled materials, for a more sustainable alternative 🌳

We have partnered with Opticycle to facilitate recycling old frames, lenses, and contact lens cases! We also work with the Lions Club donation program to redistribute eligible* old prescription glasses for those in need 🤓

Our everyday supplier packaging (made up of soft plastics, paper and cardboard) gets reused multiple times before being recycled responsibly ♻️

Why a Diabetic Eye Exam? 🤔💭

Diabetes is a complex, chronic condition that can affect many parts of the body due to fluctuations in increased blood glucose levels. This can often lead to affecting the health of your eyes, and your quality of sight, in several ways! 👀

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) remains the leading cause of preventable blindness in Australia, with Between 25% and 35% of people living with diabetes having some degree of Diabetic Retinopathy, and an estimated 91,000 living with Diabetic Macular Oedema 📋

The longer you have diabetes, the greater the likelihood of diabetic retinopathy. Almost everyone with type 1 diabetes will develop some form of DR within 20 years of diagnosis. For people with type 2 diabetes, more than 60 per cent will develop DR within the same time frame ⌛

That’s why it’s important to have a comprehensive eye exam as soon as you’re diagnosed with diabetes, then continue to have regular eye examinations with your local optometrist! 🔎 Most signs and symptoms aren't detectable without a thorough examination, and early detection and treatment is the best way to prevent vision loss 🎯
