💪 Want to increase your chances of living a longer, healthier life?

It might not be another cardio session that makes the biggest difference...

Research is increasingly showing that muscle strength is one of the strongest predictors of longevity. In fact, people with greater strength tend to live longer and enjoy better quality of life—regardless of their age or fitness level.

Strength training doesn't just build muscle. It helps:
✔️ Improve bone density
✔️ Reduce the risk of falls and fractures
✔️ Support heart and metabolic health
✔️ Boost mental wellbeing
✔️ Keep you strong and independent as you age

The best part? You don't have to become a gym ju**ie to reap the benefits. Strength training can be tailored to your age, fitness level and any injuries you may have.

If you're looking for one of the best investments you can make in your future health, this is it.

📖 Read our latest blog to discover why strength training matters more than you think.

❄️ Winter got your body feeling stiff, sore, or just... off?

You're not imagining it. Cooler temps mean tighter muscles, achier joints, and less incidental movement (thanks, hibernation mode). Add in hunching over computers and skipping the daily walk, and it's no wonder aches creep in this time of year.

The good news? A little proactive care goes a long way. Whether it's a nagging back, stiff shoulders, or just feeling less mobile than usual, our team at Aspley Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic can help you move better and feel better — before winter turns a ni**le into a real problem.

📅 Don't wait for it to get worse. Book your appointment today and let's get you moving comfortably again.

🏃‍♂️ Shin splints slowing you down?

That ache along the inside of your shin isn't something you should just "run through."

Shin splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome) are a common overuse injury, especially in runners, field sport athletes, and anyone who has recently increased their training.

Common causes include:
✔️ Increasing training too quickly
✔️ Inadequate recovery
✔️ Poor footwear
✔️ Weakness or biomechanical issues
✔️ Changes in training surface

The good news? Early assessment and the right treatment can help prevent a more serious stress injury and get you back doing what you love sooner.

At Aspley Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, we'll identify the underlying cause, develop a personalised rehabilitation plan, and guide your safe return to sport or exercise.

📍 Don't ignore persistent shin pain—early treatment leads to better outcomes.

Running has seen a massive growth in popularity since the pandemic, with an increasing number of people attending local run clubs, Park Runs and signing up for their first race. Although running has numerous health benefits, approximately 50% of runners will have to take time off from their training each year due to injury, with over-training often being the culprit.

Whether you are new to running or training for your next marathon PB, check out our latest blog post for some fundamental tips to help keep you on track for your running goals.

To ice or not to ice? 🤔 That's the big question when it comes to treating injuries like a twisted knee or sprained ankle. While icing has been a go-to for years, recent studies suggest it might not always be the best approach for recovery.

Instead, try PEACE and LOVE:

- Protection, Elevation, Avoid anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education
- Load, Optimism, Vascularisation, Exercise

Focus on managing swelling with compression and elevation, and gradually build strength and mobility. Always consult a professional for tailored advice. Stay positive and keep moving (within limits) for better long-term recovery! 💪
