I was recently quoted in a Body+Soul article about how Aussie men really feel about dating in 2026, and one thing stood out to me.
So many men are exhausted. Not just by the apps, but by the performance of it all.
There's this idea circulating, particularly in manosphere spaces, that dating is basically a marketplace and your value comes down to height, income, and looks. The "top 20%" framing. It feels less like romance and more like capitalism with a romantic veneer.
But here's what I actually see in my work:
The men who do well in dating aren't the wealthiest, the best looking, or the tallest.
They're the ones who are emotionally present. Genuinely curious about the person sitting opposite them. Not performing a version of themselves they think will pass some invisible test.
The biggest mistake I see is men performing instead of connecting.
And the fix isn't a better profile or a sharper opener. It's investing in your life outside of dating first.
Build friendships, pursue things that genuinely interest you, and get comfortable being alone without being lonely.
The goal is to create a life you genuinely enjoy, and then invite someone into it.
