Hospitality businesses are under more pressure than ever.

High turnover. Burnout. Staff shortages. Psychosocial safety obligations. Rising expectations on leaders.

That’s exactly why the HOSPO Health Leaders Program was created.

Over the past 12 months, 96 hospitality leaders across Tasmania have completed the program — with the impact now flowing through to almost 2,000 staff statewide.

This program isn’t about ticking wellbeing boxes.
It’s about creating safer, stronger and more sustainable workplaces through leadership.

Applications for the 2026–27 program are now open, with places limited to 10 hospitality businesses statewide.

96 leaders walk back into their venues after a year long government funded HOSPO Health intensive training program.

Each one goes back to a team, a kitchen, a front-of-house, a roster of casuals who’ve never had a leader trained in psychosocial safety before.

That’s how 96 becomes almost 2,000.

And the online program? That’s the whole industry.

Stephen Old has been in and around Tasmanian hospitality his entire career. When he says this is different, it is.

Our Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff gets it. 👌

The people who power Tasmania’s visitor economy deserve more than a tick-the-box wellbeing program.

They deserve something built for the realities of their industry. Something free. Something that actually works.

That’s the Hospitality Tasmania HOSPO Health program, and we’re proud to have government backing behind it. 👏

The numbers speak for themselves.

This year, the HOSPO Health Intensive Program directly reached 96 hospitality leaders across Tasmania. Every one of those leaders went back to a team. That's almost 2,000 workers whose working lives are changing because their leader now understands what a genuinely healthy, safe workplace looks like. And through our free online, do-it-at-your-own-pace program, we're reaching thousands more across the industry.

Every $1 invested in preventative health returns up to $14.30. This isn't a nice-to-have. It's one of the smartest investments a hospitality business can make.

And the best part? HOSPO Health is government-funded and completely free to Tasmanian hospitality businesses. Your government is investing in the health and wellbeing of your workforce, all you have to do is say yes.

Applications for the 2026-27 Leaders Program are open now and places are limited to just 10 businesses.

If you run a hospitality venue in Tasmania, a cafe, restaurant, hotel, pub or tourism business, this is for you. And it won't cost you a cent.

A huge thanks to Trent Thompson and the whole leadership team at Freycinet Lodge for another fantastic HOSPO Health session!

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring took the team through a Gallup Strengths Workshop this week. We've been working with them for the past two years, ever since they became part of the original case study that helped shape the HOSPO Health Leaders Program. It’s been amazing to see the commitment they bring to every session, always showing up with enthusiasm, curiosity, honesty and a real willingness to learn and grow together.

Over this time we've had some incredibly open and meaningful conversations, with leaders sharing personal experiences, challenges and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. This week’s workshop was a great way to bring it all together, exploring individual and team strengths and how these shape the way we lead, communicate and support one another.

Well done team - love your work! And how’s that backdrop? The Hazards really do make this one of the most beautiful workplaces in the world!

Applications are now open for the 2026–27 HOSPO Health Leaders Program, with 10 properties taking part next year. If your team is ready to invest in leadership, wellbeing and workplace culture, we’d love to have you involved.
Applications close 31 May, you can find out more here:

It was another great Gallup Strengths Workshop on Tuesday morning, this time with the senior leaders from Hadley's Orient Hotel and The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel.

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring spent the morning exploring both individual and team strengths, with an engaging mix of learning, conversation and practical activities. These sessions spark great conversations and give real insight into how we lead, how our strengths show up day-to-day, and how they work together across a team.

Thanks so much to the team for your openness and energy. We always enjoy these sessions and love having you as part of the HOSPO Health community!

We're in the final stretch of the 2025–26 HOSPO Health Leaders Program, and what an incredible way to finish!

Our final sessions are underway, the Gallup Executive Strengths workshops, where we explore the individual and combined strengths of each of our leadership teams. It's one of the most powerful parts of the whole program, and we love seeing the connections.

We kicked things off yesterday with the team at Shoreline Hotel: a well-connected group known for exceptional service and customer experience. And their team Strengths profile shows exactly why they're so good at it.

A massive thank you to Andrew and the whole Shoreline leadership team for the energy and commitment you've brought to every session this year. Hearing about the wins, the new initiatives and the changes you've made has been such a highlight for us. We loved every minute of working with you. 🌟

The HOSPO Health Leaders Program isn't about ticking boxes. It's about giving hospitality leaders the knowledge, tools and self-awareness to get the best from themselves, and in turn, from their teams and their business. Over the past twelve months we've worked closely with 10 properties across Tasmania doing exactly that.

If you're a hospitality business owner or leader, our 2026–27 program is open now, and applications close 31 May. This is one program you don't want to miss.

It's another big week for the HOSPO Health Leaders Program! 🌟

Monday morning kicked off with Prof Angela Martin joining the leadership team at RACV Hobart Hotel for a session on Workplace Mental Health Fundamentals.

Together, they explored:
✅ The relationship between work and mental health
✅ Employer and employee responsibilities
✅ Key skills for leading psychologically safe and resilient teams

What made this session special was the balance of interactive and reflective activities: not just hearing about the issues, but building practical plans to embed these practices into day-to-day operations. Real learning that leads to real change.

A huge thank you to the RACV Hobart Hotel team for showing up with such openness and commitment. We'll see you for the next session soon!

Are you a hospitality leader in Tasmania? Applications for our 2026-27 Leaders Program are now open! We'll be working with 10 properties on this comprehensive program. Calling all hospo leaders - something exciting is happening and we want you to be part of it. 🙌

Applications for the 2026-27 HOSPO Health Leaders Program are officially open. If you’re a business owner, GM or senior leader, this one’s for you.

We love this industry. We also know the reality - high turnover, staff doing it tough, pressure that never really switches off. The HOSPO Health Leaders Program is a new approach. Not another workshop series. A full 12-month psychosocial safety and performance system, built on real evidence, delivered by some of Australia’s best researchers and practitioners, and independently evaluated so you can see exactly what’s changed.

Over 12 months you’ll build real understanding of your legal obligations and the psychosocial hazards your business needs to manage, develop your own leadership wellbeing practice, connect with a peer learning partner for accountability every two months, and walk away with signed commitments to measurable change - backed by data.

We’re offering 10 properties a place in the 2026-27 cohort. Applications close 31 May. See the full program here, and hit the link in the comments to apply.
