The joy of watching a plant grow, from the seeds I sowed back in May, to these babies in Spring.
I don’t have a word for this kind of love.
It’s a love all plant people know intimately.
I have grown a variety of medicinal plants for the last decade. I haven’t really harvested much medicine from them to be perfectly frank. It’s actually never been about that. Its a relationship. I practice my herbalism through loved botanical relations.
These pods and petals connect me to the ancient history of pain. The relief of pain, and the experience of ease are so connected.
Pain is what led me to the plant path. And so I remember and thank these incredible plants for their deeply entwined journey with that of human kind.
To the soldiers on battlefields, to the dying who are departing this plain - relations with pain is unavoidable and the somniferum has rocked many a toiling heart to sleep.
