Not sure what was going through my head at 12 weeks pregnant to sign up for TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS when I would be 6 months postpartum 🫣

That was tough. Am I happy with my time? No. But is it a reflection of my training the last few months? Yes 😂

Had to keep reminding myself that you only fail when you give up, and my stubborn little mind, plus my husbands, pushed me through it!

Beautiful day and great experience, including running with a breast pump in my vest and having to pump and dump 😭 Kudos to female athletes that manage feeds and training, sport in itself!

Progress isn’t linear.

My training hasn’t been consistent, and cracking the 5km mark felt almost impossible this past month with broken sleep, contact naps, timing of feeds 🐮 and just not feeling it.

But today, we got it ✔️

Not my fastest run, not the fittest feeling — just enjoying the fresh air 🤍

Training through pregnancy was one of the most humbling experiences.

At 14 weeks, I was meant to run the . In those early weeks, I was actually feeling strong — I hit a half marathon PB and some of my fastest splits.

Then week 9 hit.

My blood pressure dropped so low that I couldn’t even go for a walk on my own.

I deferred my entry, and everything changed. Training became daily walks (with someone), and on the better days, a supervised weights session.

For someone who’s trained consistently for 15+ years, losing that sense of autonomy and control was both mentally and physically challenging. Add in the fatigue and everything else that comes with pregnancy… it wasn’t easy.

I’m incredibly grateful for what my body was able to do — growing a human is no small feat. But that gratitude can exist alongside the reality that it’s hard to step away from something that’s been such a huge part of your life and identity.

I’ve been looking forward to a run for sooooo long 🙌

I stopped running when I was 7 weeks pregnant due to low blood pressure, which meant deferring my entry last year. And now, 10 weeks postpartum - I’m back 🏃🏽‍♀️

Exercising requires a little admin before each session right now 😂 and sometimes doesn’t happen for a few days in a row. But, I am rebuilding, repairing and getting used to what feels like a new “normal” for my body!
