Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Whether you choose to breastfeed for days, weeks, months or years, this special connection is one you’ll never forget.

How incredible are our bodies? That a mother’s body knows exactly what her baby needs and produces that through breastmilk. If your baby is sick, breastmilk will have the antibodies your baby needs just by the saliva from your baby when they breastfeed. It provides comfort, allows them to sleep, and has all the nutrition their little bodies needs.
It helps mum with weight loss, mood regulation, bonding, immune function, prevents breast cancer and the list goes on.

I feel beyond blessed to have been able to breastfeed both my girls past 12 months but a part of me is baffled by the fact that I’m 1 in the 5%.

No matter what your breastfeeding journey looked like, I invite you to be thankful, and look upon that time as one that was special and once in a lifetime 💗💗

FERTILITY IN POSTPARTUM

It can be a slippery slope of guessing whether or not your body is truly fertile again after having a baby. Lucky for us our bodies are incredibly smart and if we pay close enough attention we can figure out what exactly is going on.

How you feed your baby will impact when your body returns to fertility & menstruating. Breastfeeding & pumping do two different things to the body and this is where alot of women get confused when fertility starts to return. If you’re unsure on whether you’re fertile or not in your postpartum, look for the signs & see if you notice a pattern - you’ll see them either on your un**es, or how you feel.

CERVICAL DILATION - it’s the focus of any hospital birth but is it actually a good representation of how a woman is progressing?

It actually gives no indication of how much longer a woman will be in labour for - every woman’s body, labour, baby, mentality is different and it all affects how a cervix will dilate. So why are we so focused on using it as a measurement of how a woman progresses?

A more accurate way to know how a woman is progressing is looking at the pattern and intensity of contractions. Or even measuring the fundus (the muscle at the top of the uterus) is a better representation, without needing a vaginal exam.

Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the more equipped you are to make the right decisions for you, your baby and your partner.

Call it controversial, call it common sense, whatever you want to call it, let’s be honest here.

Induction rates are on the rise and these inductions are happening to perfectly healthy women who are simply past their “due date”. Some birth professionals say the first intervention in a pregnancy is the due date. Why? Because this date becomes the line in the sand that determines when/what further interventions occur.

If you want a low intervention/physiological birth, giving your body the time to be ready is the first step towards achieving that goal. If left alone, most women would have their baby by 42 weeks, so why are we rushing things?

On the flip side, if you ARE getting induced then it is absolutely possible for you to have a positive induction experience with low interventions. If I can do it, so can you.

Send me a message if you are looking for support with inductions, or even if you just want to jump on the induction rant train with me, I’d love to chat to you more 💪☺️

True peace in birth isn’t found in a perfect plan - it’s found in surrender.

If you’re holding onto fear about your upcoming birth, or in complete control-freak mode about every detail you’re experiencing, take a slow, deep breath and let it all go, send it to God and allow Him to take care of it.

When I was pregnant with my first I thought I had it all figured out. I took notice of the subtle hints God gave me along the way reminding me He was there, but I don’t believe I fully surrendered. With my second, I relied heavily on God and in particular Our Lady of Fatima (full story on this to come). Instead of receiving reminders from God, I fully embraced His glory and allowed God to take care of everything, and boy was it rewarding. Prayers were answered in ways I didn’t expect. God is so good. Birth is an invitation to empty our hands and let God fill them.

I invite you to draw your attention to God during this time, and I pray that sharing these tips helps to bring you a little closer to experiencing His unconditional love and guidance.

May God bless all the mamas reading this and all those beautiful babies 🥰
