Ask Bella:
What Is Fire Cupping?
Fire cupping is a traditional technique that uses heat to create suction inside a glass cup. A trained practitioner briefly introduces a flame into the cup to warm the air before placing it on the skin. As the air cools, the cup forms a gentle vacuum.
This method provides a focused feeling of warmth and is often used on areas with thicker muscles or more noticeable tension.
Fire cupping requires careful control of both temperature and timing. If the cup becomes too hot, it may increase the risk of burns. If it is not heated sufficiently, it may not form a secure seal and could loosen or fall.
The alcohol-soaked cotton ball must be held firmly with appropriate professional forceps, and any excess alcohol must be removed before it is lit. These precautions help prevent dripping alcohol, accidental burns, or fire hazards.
Because fire cupping involves both an open flame and glass cups, it should always be performed by a properly trained and experienced practitioner.
Cupping is not about using the strongest suction or the highest temperature. It is about choosing the right level of warmth and pressure for each individual.
