GLP-1 medications are changing the way we think about obesity and metabolic health.

While many people know them for their ability to support weight loss, emerging research suggests their benefits may extend far beyond the scales, including improvements in inflammation, insulin resistance, cardiovascular health and fatty liver disease.

But here’s what I don’t want people to overlook:
The medication is only one part of the treatment.
Without the right nutrition, it’s possible to lose valuable muscle mass, under-consume protein, develop nutrient deficiencies and struggle with side effects such as constipation and fatigue.

The goal isn’t simply to become smaller.

The goal is to become metabolically healthier, stronger, more energised and feel your best.

If you’re taking a GLP-1, make sure your nutrition is supporting the incredible work the medication is doing.

At Shay Health Hub, we work with clients to preserve muscle, optimise nutrition and create sustainable habits that support long-term health, both during and after GLP-1 treatment.

Save this post for later and send it to someone starting their GLP-1 journey.

Case Study: She thought she was just a tired mum. She wasn’t.

This client came to me exhausted, run down and convinced this was simply what life with two young kids looked like.

Her blood work told a different story. Together we focused on replenishing nutrient deficiencies, supporting stress resilience and creating realistic habits that fit around motherhood.

A few months later she had more energy, clearer thinking, her hair was growing back and she no longer needed afternoon naps.

Motherhood is demanding, but constantly running on empty shouldn’t be your normal.

If this story sounds like you, I’d love to help. 🤍

Have you ever wondered why you wake up at 3am... wide awake, heart racing, unable to fall back asleep?

While stress is often blamed, one commonly overlooked cause is blood sugar instability.

If your blood sugar drops too low overnight, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to bring glucose back up. The problem? Those same hormones also increase alertness, making it much harder to stay asleep.

Of course, blood sugar isn’t the only cause of disrupted sleep. Hormonal changes, nutrient deficiencies, stress, sleep apnoea and other health conditions can all contribute. But if you’re consistently waking between 2–4am, it’s worth looking beyond “just stress”.

Quality sleep starts with understanding why your body is waking you.

If you’re constantly exhausted despite spending enough time in bed, let’s investigate what’s really going on and create a plan that addresses the root cause.

You don’t need to spend hundreds at a health food store to eat well.

These are some of the Woolworths finds that regularly make it into my trolley because they’re practical, affordable and actually support your health goals:
✔️ Noshu Low Carb Pancake Mix for a higher-protein breakfast option
✔️ Koja Protein Bars for busy afternoons when hunger hits
✔️ Carman’s Fruit Straps made from real fruit with no added sugar
✔️ Paul’s Plus+ Protein Milk for emergency breakfasts and post-gym protein
✔️ Sakata Wholegrain Rice Crackers for simple, wholegrain crunch
✔️ JIVA Ginger & Turmeric Shots when I want a digestive wake-up call

Nutrition isn’t about perfection. It’s about building a trolley full of foods that make healthy choices easier on your busiest days.

PMOS/PCOS advice on the internet can be wildly overwhelming.
Most women don’t need another random supplement recommendation. They need to understand what’s actually driving their symptoms.

For some women it’s insulin resistance. For others it’s inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, chronic stress, poor sleep, or a combination of all of the above.

The biggest improvements I see in clinic usually come from getting the foundations right first:
✔ Protein at every meal
✔ Fibre every day
✔ Stable blood sugar
✔ Regular movement
✔ Thyroid and nutrient testing
✔ Stress management
✔ Individualised support

PMOS isn’t a one-size-fits-all condition, which is why one person’s miracle fix often does nothing for someone else. Save this for later and send it to a friend who is tired of conflicting PMOS advice. 💚

BEST NEW BUSINESS 2026 ✨🥹

This business started as a vision board.

A New Year’s Eve planning session. A dream that felt exciting, terrifying, and probably a little unrealistic at the time, especially with two little kids, a full client load, teaching commitments, and a supplement company already keeping me busy.

But we did it anyway.
And now for the craziest part...
We’ve only been open for 12 weeks.

Twelve weeks ago, this was an empty space.
Since then, we’ve welcomed so many incredible clients through our doors, built relationships with amazing local businesses, expanded our dispensary, grown our team, and been embraced by the Sandgate and 4017 community in a way I never could have imagined.

To every client who has booked an appointment, referred a friend, left a review, purchased a supplement, shared a post, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, thank you.

Best New Business 2026. Just 12 weeks in. So incredibly grateful to be here just doing what I love and helping people with their health ✨

Thanks to Bisma Asif MP for supporting small businesses with this fun appreciation every year!
