Have you ever had that moment where you think, "I really should sort this out for Mum and Dad" and then life just... carries you away again?

I sit with that thought a lot, because it's the one I hear most from the women I work with. They're holding their whole family together. Organising the appointments, asking the hard questions, trying to plan for what's coming while still showing up for everyone else.

I'm Kerry, and I'm an end-of-life doula and advance planning specialist here in Brisbane. My work is helping families have the conversations they keep putting off, before there's a crisis forcing the timeline.

One thing that changes for the families I work with is this: when something does happen, they're not scrambling. They already know the wishes, the documents, the plan. They get to be present with their person, not buried in paperwork they've never seen before.

The most healing ceremonies are often the ones that feel deeply personal, because they reflect the life, love, and presence of the person being honoured. A quiet moment, a favourite song, a simple reading, or a heartfelt story can hold more meaning than anything polished or perfect. What matters most is not tradition for tradition’s sake, but a ceremony that feels true.

On Friday evening I was able to attend the Mother's Day Memorial Service at Grea at Great Northern Garden of Remembrance, Deception Bay with the service being conducted by Rita-Marie Lenton . A beautiful service to remember Mother's, Grandmother's, Mother's who have lost children ans Step Mother's. The beautiful display of books, the Teddy Bear, Teapot and Cups. We were able to light a candle for the Mother's that are no longer on earth with us.
