You are convinced your husband drinks too much.

But he gets up and goes to work every day.

He’s successful.
He’s respected.
He’s a good provider.

He might even be the life of the party.

And that’s what makes it so confusing.

Because when you think of an alcoholic, you don’t picture your husband.

You picture someone who’s lost their job. Someone who drinks all day. Someone whose life has completely fallen apart.

But that’s not what your life looks like.

Instead, you’re counting how many drinks he’s had.

Listening for changes in his voice.

Wondering whether tonight will be peaceful or whether everyone will be walking on eggshells.

And because he seems to be functioning in so many other areas of his life, you keep asking yourself:

Is he actually an alcoholic? Is his drinking really that bad?

Here’s what I want you to consider.

It doesn’t have to be a problem for him, for it to be a problem for you.

You don’t have to wait for him to lose his job, hit rock bottom or admit he has a drinking problem before you acknowledge the impact it’s having on you.

And you don’t need to find the right label before you can start getting support.

In Episode 106 of Addiction Makes Three, I’m talking about why the question “Is my husband an alcoholic?” can keep us stuck, and the question I think we need to start asking instead.

Many women believe:

💔 I can’t feel better until they get better.
💔 Life can’t be good until they are sober.
💔 I can’t focus on anything else until they are 12 months in recovery

So they wait.

They wait for sobriety.
They wait for honesty.
They wait for recovery.

They wait for things to finally settle down.

Meanwhile, their own life gets put on hold.

And Years pass….

What if your peace didn’t have to wait for their sobriety or recovery?

💕 I’m running a free live workshop called:

➡️ “Letting Go Without Giving Up”
Finding Peace Whether Your Loved One Is Sober Or Not

For women who are exhausted from carrying the weight of a loved one’s drinking, drug use or addiction and want to find a different way forward, that doesn’t rely on their loved ones sobriety or recovery.

Not by giving up on them.
Not by caring less.

But by learning how to carry less - so their addiction takes up less of your life, and you have more space for your own wellbeing, relationships and future.

🌎 Times across multiple time zones - across the world

You probably haven’t run out of things to try.

You could have another conversation.
Try explaining it differently.
Be more patient.
Be firmer.
Read another book.
Listen to another podcast.
Wait and see what happens this time.

And maybe some of those things will help. Some of them won’t.

But there comes a point where the question changes from:

“What else can I do to get through to him?”

to:

“What can I do differently so MY life isn’t constantly being shaped by this?”

That’s a very different question.

And in my experience, it’s often where things begin changing.

Not necessarily because he changes first.

Because you stop making his next decision the starting point for yours.

You begin getting clearer about what belongs to you.

What doesn’t.

Where you have influence.

Where you’ve been carrying responsibility that was never actually yours.

And what you want your own life to look like from here.

👉 If you’re at the point where you know you don’t want to keep doing this the same way, come join me for my free workshop:

🩷 How To Let Go Without Giving Up

How to find peace whether your loved one is sober or not.

If you’re ready to discover what can change without waiting for him to change first, I’d love you to join me.

This isn’t about giving up on someone you love.

It’s about discovering that your life can begin feeling different even if theirs hasn’t changed yet.

For years, I was incredibly capable at figuring things out.

Work. Kids. Life. Problems.

If something needed sorting, I’d sort it.

And I brought that same energy to my husband’s addiction.

I researched.

I tried different approaches.

I thought through every possible scenario.

I tried to anticipate what might happen next.

And I carried a hell of a lot of it privately.

Maybe you know that feeling too.

Because from the outside, your life might look pretty damn good.

You’re successful. You’ve built a life you’re proud of. You have amazing kids, great friends, holidays in the calendar.

You’re the person other people rely on.

And you are capable of figuring things out.

You’ve been doing it for years.

But being capable of doing this on your own doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it on your own.

What becomes possible when you have somewhere to bring the decisions you’re second-guessing?

The boundary you’re trying to hold.

The wobble after a really good week.

The moment something happens and you’re not sure how you want to respond.

The questions you’ve been turning over and over inside your own head.

What becomes possible when, for three months, you have experienced support to help you navigate those moments as they’re actually happening?

Not someone telling you what you should do.

Not more information about addiction.

Support that helps you get clearer on what’s yours, make decisions you trust and actually begin changing the parts of your life that are yours to change.

💕 Because there comes a point where the next step isn’t figuring out more.

It’s being willing to do something differently.

👉 If you’re there if you know you’re ready for things to be different and you’re ready to have support while you make that happen, comment or DM “ready”

I’ll reach out personally. 💕

When you love someone who struggles with alcohol, it’s easy for your day to start revolving around theirs.

If he’s okay, you can breathe a little bit easier.

If he’s not… everything shifts.

But what if you could feel more steady in yourself, even when things around you aren’t?

That’s exactly what we’ll explore in my free live workshop:

🩷 How To Let Go Without Giving Up
How to find peace whether your loved one is sober or not.

➡️ Comment “lighter” and I’ll send you the details for the next live workshop.
