🚨 IWFF WalkAroos France 2027 – Outstanding Start! 🇦🇺

We are delighted to announce that, in just one week, we have already received 103 Expressions of Interest across our eight age categories for the IWFF World Championships in Béziers, France 2027.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already registered. The response has been outstanding and demonstrates the passion and commitment of our WalkAroos community.

⚠️ Code of Conduct Reminder
A number of applicants have not yet completed and signed the WalkAroos Code of Conduct. If you haven't done so, please complete this as soon as possible, as it forms part of the selection process.

📋 Selection & Trials
Trials will be scheduled shortly across Eastern Australia to assist our selectors in identifying the strongest possible squads for France 2027.
We also plan assessments for PERTH however; further details will be announced in the coming weeks. IWFF WalkAroos will not be assessing at any other venues

Pan Pacific Masters Game
We may assess players from the Western States at Pan Pacific Masters Games in November on the Gold Coast.

For those who are new to the WalkAroos program, it's important to understand our selection philosophy.

The WalkAroos are Australia's elite international walking football teams. Selection is based on merit, with our objective being to field the strongest possible teams in every age category.

Players selected for France 2027 will be expected to:
• Be physically fit and injury-free.
• Have a thorough understanding of the Laws of the Game.
• Demonstrate the technical and tactical ability to compete at international level.
• Display outstanding teamwork, commitment, discipline and sportsmanship.
• Embrace the team-first culture that represents Australia with pride.

Participation is not based on friendships, previous tours, or simply funding your own trip. This is international walking football, where every player has a responsibility to prepare to the highest standard.

From the moment you nominate, expect to be challenged physically, mentally and tactically, so that when we arrive in Béziers, every WalkAroo is ready to compete for Australia.

Last week we notified our teams/players of our next exciting venture for France 2027. We do not expect all players to travel, however, within 5 days, 45 players have responded wanting to go.

We will now open this up for good quality players who feel they can perform against the best Walking Football Nations of Europe in France next June (2027). More information will be available in coming weeks.

For those who do believe they can play and perform against the best are very welcome to apply at this link here https://forms.gle/8v9i6UK86LFjHLAc8
We also have details on our website about expectations of players representing Walking Football Australia both overseas and of course here at home. https://www.walkingfootballaustralia.com/code-of-conduct
ensuring they all adhere to The WalkAroos Code of Conduct and meet the criteria. https://www.walkingfootballaustralia.com/criteria It's unfortunate that we need to remind players, officials etc... on both matters.

Looking forward to hearing from all candidates.

Oh no, so sorry to hear about David. I remember our very first enquiry call to him all those years ago. He fully supported Walking Football at Middle Green from Day one, and saw the physical, mental and wonderful social benefits it brings to so many people at Greenbank Over 50's Walking Football

RIP David, without your support we would have struggled to host Walking Football in Greenbank. The community in that region and beyond is grateful for your wonderful contributions.🙏

The WalkAroos belong to Australian Walking Football, not to any single state, city, club, committee, or individual.

The future success of the WalkAroos will be built upon inclusion, transparency, merit, and a genuine commitment to developing Walking Football throughout Australia.

A Message to the Walking Football Community
For those who genuinely know me, you will know that my priorities have never been about trophies, recognition, social media attention, or personal accolades.

My greatest satisfaction has always come from seeing people achieve things they never thought possible, whether socially, physically, competitively, or simply through the friendships formed within our wonderful game.

Since announcing my resignation from Walking Football Australia – WalkAroos earlier this week, I have been overwhelmed by the number of phone calls, text messages, emails, and messages of support I have received. While I would love to respond personally to every single one, that simply isn't possible.

To everyone who has taken the time to reach out with such kind, thoughtful, and heartwarming words, thank you. Your support has meant more to me than I can adequately express. You know who you are, and I am genuinely grateful for your friendship, encouragement, and kindness.

For those who may not have received my earlier email, I have officially stepped down from my position with Walking Football Australia – WalkAroos after eight years dedicated to developing and promoting the game throughout Australia and internationally.

This decision has not been made lightly. However, I believe every organisation and every movement benefits from new leadership, fresh ideas, and new energy.
I am currently working closely with IWFF UK President Alan Rose to help ensure that the foundations built over the past eight years continue to support the growth and success of Walking Football in Australia for many years to come.

Looking back, I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved.
When this journey began, international opportunities for Australian players simply did not exist. Today, hundreds of Australians have had the opportunity to represent their country overseas and, more recently, many were able to experience the pride of competing at the World Championships here in Brisbane.

People often say there should be one organisation running everything, and under a traditional sporting structure that may well be the case. However, given the infancy of Walking Football, the age groups involved, and the unique geographical challenges of Australia, the pathways developed through organisations in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, and beyond have created many opportunities that may otherwise never have existed.

The growth of Walking Football in Australia has never been the work of one person or one organisation. It has been built by passionate volunteers, coaches, administrators, players, supporters, and families from right across the country. Together, we have created opportunities for people seeking something extra from our game while continuing to support participation, friendship, health, and enjoyment at every level.

My hope for the future is that Walking Football continues to embrace a truly national approach one that values inclusion, transparency, development, and opportunity for all players regardless of where they live or who they play for. The game will only continue to grow if we work together, respect each other's contributions, and place the interests of the sport ahead of individual ambitions.

To every player I have coached, managed, selected, traveled with, or simply shared a conversation with over the years, thank you.
To every volunteer, committee member, referee, sponsor, supporter, and administrator, thank you.

To everyone who dared to dream that Australia could compete on the world stage, thank you for believing.

It has been an absolute privilege to be part of this journey.
While my role may be ending, my passion for Walking Football and the friendships it has given me will remain.

I genuinely wish all players, coaches, administrators, volunteers, and future leaders every success in the years ahead.

Long may Walking Football continue to grow, bringing enjoyment, friendship, health, and opportunity to people of all ages.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
Warm regards,
Alan Templeton

A Special Thank You to Our Organising Committee

As we bring to a close what has been a truly wonderful and successful event, I would like to pay special tribute to the busiest and most dedicated Organising Committee I have ever had the privilege of working alongside.

Since November last year, these incredible individuals have devoted countless hours to planning, preparing, coordinating, and delivering an event that has exceeded all expectations.

My sincere thanks go to:

David Stoyakovich
Ritchie Callaghan
Deanne Montauban
Roszana Peachey
Wally Vicig

Without going into every individual role and responsibility, I can honestly say that this event ran like clockwork because of the endless commitment, determination, and passion shown by each and every one of them.

What many people don't see are the countless hours spent outside of our 35-plus committee meetings. The phone calls, emails, correspondence, planning sessions, problem-solving, and constant communication that took place behind the scenes were simply extraordinary.

The committee worked tirelessly with Brisbane Strikers FC, Bruce Dinsdale, Scottie Wheeler, councils, businesses, sponsors, and grant providers. They navigated the often thankless task of grant applications, coordinated logistics, solved challenges as they arose, and ensured every aspect of the event was given the attention it deserved.

A particularly significant achievement was the creation and organisation of the Expat teams, a massive undertaking led by David Stoyakovich and Ritchie Callaghan, with tremendous support from Deanne Montauban and Roszana Peachey throughout the process.

Wally Vicig, our walking footballer, referee, and long-time stalwart of the game, also provided invaluable support and commitment throughout the journey.

I have probably left out many of the countless tasks that were undertaken, but what I do know is this: without the support, dedication, and friendship of these remarkable people, I could not have helped bring this event together.

To David, Ritchie, Deanne, Roszana, and Wally, I am forever grateful to you all.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment, your hard work, your belief in the vision, and your willingness to go above and beyond every step of the way.

Now it is time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well-earned break. You have all more than earned it.

On behalf of everyone involved, thank you for helping make this event such a tremendous success. Next time you see them all around the Walking Football fraternity, don't forget to congratulate them on a wonderful achievement.
