🎒 Building endurance for busy days

Kindy, school and community activities can involve lots of movement and concentration. Endurance is the ability to keep participating in activities over a period of time, whether that's playing, learning, moving or spending time with others in a group activity or sport. 💛

Children build endurance in different ways and at different rates.

Some ways to support your child include:

📆 Incorporating movement into daily routines
✅Allowing opportunities for regular activity and rest
💜Supporting participation in activities that are meaningful to them

Building endurance isn't about keeping up with others. It's about supporting each child to participate as fully as possible in the activities that matter to them.

Getting cosy for National Pyjama Day! 🧸💙

Maddie, Jess, Riley and Tim, along with the Xavier Place team, got into the spirit of National Pyjama Day on Friday, in their favourite comfy PJs.

National Pyjama Day raises awareness and funds to support children in foster care, helping provide the guidance, connection and support they need to thrive.

A little bit of fun, a lot of smiles and an important cause close to our hearts. 💙

🌟 Building confidence through participation

At Xavier, we know that every child deserves opportunities to participate in the physical aspects of family life, education, play and sport. 💛

Participation might look different for every child, and that's okay.

Ways to support participation in physical activity include:

💜Focusing on what your child can do
💪Adapting activities to suit their strengths and support needs
😄Creating opportunities for choice and independence
🙌 Celebrating achievements that are meaningful to your child

When children are supported to participate, they can build confidence, skills and connections.

As Queensland's peak body for children with developmental delay, we help families navigate the support available to enable children to take part at their own pace. If you'd like further information, reach out to: [email protected] 🌟

🎬🎉 Happy Birthday, Maddie! 🎉🎬

There was plenty of Summer Bay spirit at Xavier Place as we celebrated Maddie's birthday with a Home and Away-themed party!

Maddie loves writing her own plays and bringing them into Xavier Place for everyone to perform. She's always dreaming up new stories, assigning cast members and sharing her creativity, making a TV-inspired celebration a wonderful match for her love of storytelling and performance.

The piñata was a big hit (😄) and Delta Therapy Dogs Maria was on hand to help Maddie unwrap her presents, making the day even more special.

Happy Birthday, Maddie! Thank you for sharing your imagination, creativity and love of storytelling with all of us. We hope your day was every bit as wonderful as you are. 💙

💪 Strength for everyday life

Physical development isn't just about achieving milestones. It's also about supporting children to participate in everyday activities that are meaningful to them. 💛

You can help by:

📆Encouraging movement throughout the day
✅Breaking physical activities into manageable steps
💜Providing support when needed while promoting independence where possible
🙌Recognising effort and persistence

Small opportunities for movement can support confidence, participation and wellbeing over time.

🎉 Happy 18th Birthday, Liam! 💙

There was plenty of cheer as Liam celebrated his milestone birthday with the Xavier Place crew, including Will, Joel and Abbey.

Liam and his family have been part of the Xavier community since he was just 18 months old. Over the years, we've had the privilege of watching Liam grow into the wonderful young man he is today, building friendships, reaching milestones and creating many special memories together.

What a joy it was to celebrate with Liam. We wish you a year filled with laughter, new adventures and many more wonderful celebrations with family and friends. 🎂🎈💙! 🎂🎈💙

🎈 Learning through movement and play

Play is one of the most powerful ways children learn and develop physical skills. 💛

Movement-based play can help children build strength, coordination and confidence while having fun. Some tips to support your child:

✅Follow your child's interests and preferred activities
👀Provide opportunities to explore movement in different ways during play
🎯Use favourite toys, music or games to encourage participation
😄Celebrate engagement and enjoyment

There is no right way to play. What matters most is creating opportunities for children to participate in ways that work for them.

Jaden loves getting outdoors and taking his dog, Benki, for a walk and with support worker Oli by his side, it's become a regular part of their routine.

Because Jaden is highly sensitive to the sun and wind, Oli understands how to adapt their outings so Jaden can enjoy doing what he loves safely and comfortably.

Jaden's mum, Tanya, has loved watching their friendship grow.

💙 Personalised support like this is at the heart of what we do at Xavier, helping our children and young people thrive.

💛 Every movement matters

Gross motor development looks different for every child.

For some children, it might involve running, riding a bike, climbing or jumping. For others, it may be reaching, changing positions, using mobility equipment, or building strength and endurance for everyday activities.

You can support your child's development by:

🏃Encouraging movement opportunities that match their abilities and interests
🙌Celebrating effort and participation
📆Building movement into everyday routines
🎉Recognising and celebrating progress, no matter how big or small
