Kids anxiety bracelets. Let’s talk about them. Do they actually work?

As a kids allied health practice, what we see is that sometimes they can potentially help, especially for children who benefit from sensory or grounding tools.

But usually it’s not the bracelet itself “fixing” anxiety.

For many children, the bracelet becomes:

• a calming routine
• a comfort object
• a sensory tool
• a reminder to breathe or self-regulate

Some kids genuinely feel calmer having something predictable they can touch during stressful moments like school, social situations, bedtime worries, or overwhelm.

But if anxiety is starting to affect:

• sleep
• school
• friendships
• confidence
• family life

then an anxiety bracelet alone usually isn’t enough.

This is where it’s important to remember that anxiety in children can sometimes overlap with things like sensory challenges, ADHD, autism, learning difficulties, or emotional overwhelm.

Sometimes what looks like “anxiety” is actually a child struggling to cope with an environment that feels too hard, too loud, too stressful, or too unpredictable.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with trying calming tools if they help your child feel safer or more regulated.

But the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne anxiety guideline recommends early support and psychoeducation when anxiety begins interfering with daily life.

The bigger goal is to help your little one build emotional regulation skills, confidence, coping strategies, and support around them over time.

Parents - you’re NOT overreacting for wanting to help your child feel calmer - an anxiety bracelet can be a good start and introduction to ‘seeking help’ for a child.

Hands up 🙌 if you’re a stressed-out, burnt out, barely keeping it together parent…

You know who you are, and you’ve probably said this line more than 3 times per morning school run.

“I know I probably need support too… I just genuinely don’t know where I’d fit it in.”

Parenting is tough work!

Parents are trying to manage work, school drop offs, appointments, sports, dinner, emotional meltdowns, family life, and about 47 tabs open in their brain at all times.

There’s barely a moment to enjoy a tea or coffee in a seated position.

So the idea of adding “therapy” for yourself can feel impossible.

That’s why telehealth has become such a helpful option for so many parents.

Some parents take their session sitting in the car after school drop off.

Some jump on during their lunch break at work.

We have a few mum’s who hide in the car during soccer training and finally have an hour where nobody needs something from them.

It’s these slices of time that you carve out for yourself, that don’t need to look perfect but where you CAN fill your own cup for a minute.

Parents - we know that you prioritise everything above yourself but if you don’t fill your own cup, who will??

Sometimes having a time where you can talk openly, think clearly, and feel supported yourself can make a really big difference in your entire family’s life.

You shouldn’t be carrying the entire load on your own. Take this post as a sign to book some support for yourself.

Our Telehealth counselling and psychology supports are available for adults and parents needing flexible support around stress, overwhelm, anxiety, parenting pressures, and emotional wellbeing 💚

And we’re not going to judge you if you take the call locked away in the bathroom, or in your car while eating lunch 😂

To book an appointment fill out a booking enquiry on our website or send us a message here and we’ll help get that organised for you.

“Maybe he’s just being difficult.”

That’s what Michelle* kept telling herself about her 7 year old son, Noah*.

Every morning before school felt exhausting.

Socks were wrong, breakfast was yucky, the school uniform felt itchy.

And by 8:15am, both of them were already overwhelmed and in tears.

Teachers were starting to notice Noah having:

• difficulty concentrating
• emotional outbursts
• friendship struggles
• avoiding classroom tasks

But every time Michelle thought about asking for help, another thought crept in:

“What if I’m overreacting? What if this is just what kids do??”

So she waited.

Until one afternoon Noah came home from school, threw his bag on the floor and cried: “I try so hard but everything feels too hard. I HATE everything!!!”

That was the moment Michelle realised this wasn’t about “bad behaviour.” Something genuinely felt difficult for him.

When they finally came in for support, the biggest surprise wasn’t the assessment. It was the relief they both felt.

Relief that someone understood. Relief that Noah wasn’t “naughty.” Relief that there were ways to support him.

A lot of parents carry concerns quietly for a very long time. They might even feel embarrassed to share this with a close parent friend. And it’s all because they care so deeply.

If something has been sitting in the back of your mind about your child lately, you are not failing by asking questions.

Sometimes clarity changes everything. Message us or fill out a booking enquiry on our website to finally bring peace back to your life.

Some of the most important moments in therapy don’t look dramatic.
Sometimes they look like:

• building blocks together
• laughing over bubbles
• climbing through an obstacle course
• sitting quietly beside a child while they feel safe enough to talk

But underneath those moments, a lot is happening.

Children are building:

• trust
• confidence
• communication skills
• emotional regulation
• movement skills
• connection

And often the biggest progress happens slowly, through consistency and relationships.

One parent recently told us: “My child doesn’t even realise they’re working hard in therapy… they just think they’re having fun.”

That’s often exactly how therapy should feel for children.

At All About Kids, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, supported and genuinely engaged.

Thank you to the families who allow us to be part of their child’s journey 💛

And if you would like help for your child - send us a message or fill out a booking enquiry on the website so we can get in touch with you.

Parents often feel nervous before an ADHD assessment.

They worry about:

• hearing something confronting
• being blamed
• their child feeling uncomfortable

But most children simply experience it as spending time with someone who is trying to understand how they think and learn.

The assessment process helps build a clearer picture of what may be going on beneath the surface.

Because behaviour always has a reason.

And understanding that reason can help children receive the right support at home and school.

“How do I actually get my child tested for ADHD?”

It’s one of the most common questions parents ask us.

Usually after months of wondering things like:

• Why is school becoming so hard?

• Why do simple routines feel exhausting?

• Why does my child seem constantly overwhelmed or distracted?

• Am I overreacting?

For many Brisbane families, the first step is speaking with a GP, paediatrician, or a child psychologist.

An ADHD assessment is NOT about putting a label on a child. It’s about understanding how their brain works so families, schools and clinicians can better support them.

If you choose to come to All About Kids, our assessment process for ADHD often includes:

• parent interviews
• teacher questionnaires
• developmental history
• attention and cognitive testing
• behavioural observations

Sometimes assessments identify ADHD.

Sometimes they uncover something else like anxiety, learning difficulties or emotional regulation challenges.

But one thing we hear often from parents afterwards is: “I finally feel like things make sense now.”

And that clarity can make a huge difference.

If you’ve been wondering whether your child may benefit from an ADHD assessment, our team is always happy to talk families through

Send us a message or fill out a booking enquiry on our website to get in touch.

Welcome to our Wooloowin clinic 💛 For many families, walking through the doors for the first time can feel a little emotional.

Often parents arrive carrying a lot of:
• uncertainty
• worry
• guilt
• overwhelm
• questions they’ve been holding onto for a long time

One thing we hear often is: “I didn’t know where to start.”

That’s okay. You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out.

Our Wooloowin clinic is home to a multidisciplinary team including:

• psychologists
• speech therapists
• occupational therapists
• physiotherapists
• exercise physiologists

We work together to help families better understand their child’s development and create a clear path forward.

And while assessments and therapy are important, we also care deeply about creating a space where families feel safe, welcomed and understood.

Sometimes children walk in nervous and leave asking when they can come back.

(Usually because there were bubbles involved somewhere.)

If you’ve been considering support for your child, our team is here when you’re ready.

You can book an appointment by filling in a booking enquiry on our website or send us a message and we will help you.
