📱 Screen Time and Children’s Posture: What Parents Should Know
Does your child spend a lot of time on a tablet, phone, computer or gaming console?
Screen time itself isn’t necessarily the problem. The bigger issue can be sitting for long periods, looking down at a device and staying in the same position without moving.
Instead of constantly telling children to “sit up straight”, encourage them to:
✅ Change positions regularly
✅ Take movement breaks
✅ Raise tablets and screens where practical
✅ Stay active throughout the day
✅ Get enough sleep
✅ Develop healthy screen habits as a family
For Australian children aged 5–17, guidelines recommend no more than 2 hours of recreational screen time per day and at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each day.
If your child is experiencing ongoing neck, back or posture-related discomfort, it’s worth having the symptoms appropriately assessed.
