Earlier and more accurate melanoma diagnosis means patients can be treated sooner, dramatically improving outcomes and saving lives.

At PA Hospital, leading Dermatologist Professor Peter Soyer and his team are combining 3D total body imaging with deep image analysis and advanced molecular profiling, to redefine how we identify and understand Australia’s third most common cancer. 🔬

“I am specifically committed to developing innovations in dermatology that help address the current inequities in health care access, delivery, and outcomes across regional, rural and remote Australia,” Professor Soyer said.

“Collaboration and inclusion are central to achieving meaningful and lasting improvements in healthcare.”

With a flurry of accolades including a recent King's Birthday Honour, Professor Soyer is renowned for his clinical and research accomplishments. 🏅

The University of Queensland and TRI-based researcher’s success is an example of how collaborations create a thriving partnership. 🤝

Bringing together bench to bedside research, alongside cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise, Professor Soyer’s research and his extensive collaborations showcase translational research in action, and better outcomes for patients diagnosed with melanoma.

When Emily smiles, you can't help but smile back! 😁

Growing up in Brisbane, she's been with Metro South Health for 16 years. She nursed at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) for many years before becoming the nurse unit manager (NUM) of the Transit Lounge at Redland Hospital .

'This role felt like a natural fit. It allowed me to draw on my previous experience working with infusions and flow from my time at PAH Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU),' she said.

Emily supports both nursing and administration teams, ensuring they have everything they need to care for patients safely and confidently. When things get busy, she even jumps in to help with bedside patient care.

Her positive energy is infectious and she inspires everyone to come to work wanting to do their best. ❤️

Recently, Emily's been involved in planning for the Transit Lounge expansion. 🌟

'I’ve had the opportunity to meet with the design and project teams to discuss what currently works well in the department and what is needed moving forward,' she said.

'We’ve explored what our teams require to support the increased patient flow that will come with the expansion.

'These improvements will make a world of difference for the team.'

Patients and staff will benefit from:
> dedicated areas for essential equipment
> more workspace and storage
> a separate space for infusions and procedures
> more bed bays to improve privacy
> a procedure room that enhances flexibility in care delivery.

'Everyone is excited about the expansion. We're looking forward to the day we can open the doors to the new area,' she said.

Thanks Emily—we're excited too! 🙌

When Hanna and Ash finally held baby Isla in their arms, they knew she was worth every challenging step of their journey. 🩵

After 3 years of trying, a pregnancy loss, and a diagnosis of endometriosis (a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it), Isla arrived on their third round of IVF, their fourth embryo transfer.

In August last year, baby Isla made her entrance via caesarean section (C-section) at Redland Hospital, supported by student midwife Jen and midwife Kayla, whose kindness and warmth made all the difference.

'The doctor lowered the screen so we could watch Isla being born, an unforgettable, surreal moment,' Hanna said.

At just 2 days old, Isla was diagnosed with hip dysplasia (where the hip joint doesn't develop properly). She began wearing a Pavlik harness at three weeks old. By 9 weeks it was off, and at 6 months an X-ray confirmed everything was perfectly aligned. 👶

There was one more surprise in store.

During the pregnancy, Ash's dad Charles had joked he might become the world's oldest first-time grandfather. Turns out, he actually was. At 91 years old, Poppy Charles is now officially a Guinness World Record holder. 🏆

'Absolute magic,' Charles said of the moment he met Isla.

'All I can say is I picked her up and didn't want to give her back. Except for the nappy changes.

'She's my granddaughter. Record-breaking or not, she's my family.'

Congratulations to Hanna, Ash, Isla and Poppy Charles. What an extraordinary start to a beautiful chapter. ❤️

Shout-out to PA Hospital's In-reach Rehabilitation team who has supported 1,000 patients. 🌟

The innovative model of care brings specialist rehabilitation services to acute wards to help patients begin their recovery earlier and reduce the amount of time they spend in hospital.

Physiotherapist Treena Seeto said the team works alongside ward-based therapists to increase the intensity of rehabilitation and improve patient outcomes.

“We collect a lot of data and are seeing positive improvements in patient outcomes, but the most rewarding part is the feedback from patients themselves."

One of those patients is Crystal (pictured), who became the 1,000th In-reach Rehab patient this week.

"The experience has been great,” she said. “Things that I couldn’t do before, I can do now, which is really encouraging and motivating for me to keep going,” she said.

Congratulations to the dedicated team on this incredible milestone! Thank you for all that you do. 👏

Every year, Metro South Health Emergency Department teams undertake research to better understand patient experiences and improve the care we provide. 👏

Thanks to the support of a $10,000 Emergency Medicine Foundation Emerge Grant, one of the latest projects is underway at Redland Hospital with research focused on patients experiencing both homelessness and suicidality.

Social Worker Katrielle Litster is undertaking the study which will bring together insights from patients and staff, with support from mentors Professor Marianne Wyder and Emergency Department Staff Specialist Dr Henry Tsao.

Digital Health and Informatics (DHI) has made a strong debut at the Corporate Games, taking home two bronze medals and plenty of team pride 🥉

12 DHI staff competed across volleyball, pickleball and tennis at this year’s event, which brought together more than 3,300 participants from 133 organisations. 🎾

With back-to-back wins on court and standout performances in pickleball and men’s doubles tennis, the team showed what can be achieved through teamwork, energy and determination.

“Really proud of how the guys performed this weekend… we pushed a side that went on to finish second, which says a lot about where we’re at.”

A great result and an even better example of the benefits of connection, wellbeing and a bit of friendly competition. Bring on next year! 💪
