A little inspiration, a lot of food for thought!

A great few days at Fortuna One exploring health, mindset, business and human potential.

One of the biggest takeaways was how connected our physical health, psychological wellbeing and ability to thrive really are.

Whether we’re navigating life, running a business or simply wanting to feel and function better, most of us already know some of the things we could be doing differently.

The challenge is taking action.

Sometimes it’s not about learning more, but doing something differently with what we already know.

Last Thursday, a lot of people asked, " Are you OK?".

If you said no, what happened next?

Being asked is being seen for a moment. Being supported is being held over time. Most of us are practised at the first and quietly unsure what to do about the second.

A week is not very long. So if you said no last Thursday, what has happened since?

Maybe someone stayed close. Maybe a workplace or a community quietly made room for you. Maybe not much has changed at all.

All of it is worth saying out loud, because the people who were held show the rest of us what holding actually looks like.

What has this week looked like for you?

Curiosity about ourselves is often where meaningful change begins.

When we become genuinely interested in our own patterns, reactions, values and choices, we create space to respond differently rather than simply repeat what is familiar.

Self-awareness is not about overanalysing everything. It is about noticing with enough honesty and compassion to understand what is driving us.

Sometimes one good question can open up an entirely new perspective.

Better late than never… 💛

A few weeks ago the Hearts of Change ladies managed to get together for lunch. Between businesses, clients, kids, families and life, finding a time that suited everyone wasn’t easy… but always worth it.

It also made me realise that this year marks five years since I took the leap and started consulting on my own.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over those five years, it’s that building a business isn’t just about the work you do. It’s about the people you surround yourself with.

Working for yourself can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be lonely. There are no colleagues to debrief with after a tough week, celebrate the little wins with or remind you that you’re doing better than you think.

As a psychologist, I know how important social connection is for our mental health and wellbeing. We often think of wellbeing as exercise, nutrition or sleep, but having people who genuinely understand your journey is just as important.

I’m incredibly grateful for this group of amazing women. Every catch-up leaves me feeling inspired, supported and a cup full of laughter.

If you’re a woman running your own business and you’re looking for a genuine circle of supportive, like-minded women, send me a message. We’d love to welcome a few more around the table. 💛

Which circle are you mostly living in right now?

Stephen Covey gave us the circles of control and influence. And Viktor Frankl said it best:

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our responses lie our growth and our freedom."

That space is your inner circle.

Here's what I see a lot in my coaching work. People know this model. They've seen it, nodded at it, maybe even taught it. But when life gets hard, most of us quietly drift into the outer circle without even noticing. We get caught up in what other people think, what we can't change, what's already happened. And somewhere along the way we stop seeing the middle circle altogether.

That middle circle matters more than we give it credit for. Your sleep, your health, your relationships, how you show up, the goals you actually pursue. None of that is fixed. All of it is shaped by the choices you make every day.

So I'm genuinely curious. Drop it in the comments below.
Are you mostly in the inner circle, the middle, or the outer one right now?

No wrong answer. Just an honest one.

And if you're finding yourself stuck in the outer circle more than you'd like, that's exactly the conversation coaching is for. Feel free to DM us or head to optimasolutions.com.au

AI is making me think less about technology…
and more about humans.

We already have extraordinary intelligence as a species.

We can create artificial intelligence, edit genes, communicate globally in seconds and solve problems our ancestors could never imagine.

Yet many of the biggest challenges we face are not intelligence problems.

They are:
• disconnection
• nervous system overload
• trauma and conditioning
• power and greed
• short term thinking
• loss of meaning and connection
• self-centredness

AI will likely help us solve incredible things:

- medicine, climate modelling, education and scientific breakthroughs that we cannot yet imagine.

But technology amplifies the consciousness of the people using it.

A hammer can build a home or become a weapon.

AI is no different.

So perhaps the real question is not:
“Will AI become conscious?”

But:
“Will humanity become conscious enough to use it wisely?”

Maybe the next evolution of humanity is not just technological.
Maybe it is emotional, psychological and collective.

Most people think mental health is mostly impacted by our minds. Emerging research suggests the conversation may need to be broader.

The gut and brain are in constant communication through the gut-brain axis, influencing mood, stress responses, inflammation and emotional regulation.

In fact, around 90–95% of the body’s serotonin is produced in the gut.

While mental health is always complex and influenced by many factors, nutrition, gut health, sleep, stress and nervous system regulation may play a bigger role than many people realise.

At Optima, we take a more holistic and evidence-informed approach to mental health, wellbeing and performance because humans are not just minds. We are whole systems.

Have you ever noticed changes in your mood or stress levels linked to your physical health, nutrition or stress load?
