The thing is conditions like this and in particularly, Glaucoma can creep up on the best of us. It doesn't discriminate or pick and choose who's good looking or not to develop.

Glaucoma gradually develops and in it's earlier stages, may cause no obvious symptoms. Diagnosis involves much more than simply checking eye pressure. The optic nerve, visual field, eye structure and other risk factors all form part of the assessment.

If your optometrist identifies something that needs further investigation, you may be referred to an Ophthalmologist.

Being told you have a cataract doesn't automatically mean you need surgery straight away. The decision depends on how much the cataract is affecting your vision and everyday life. If surgery is appropriate, here are 7 simple steps:

1. Get a referral letter from either your GP or Optometrist to see one of our Ophthalmologists.
2. Book an appointment for an assessment.
3. At your appointment, have the appropriate scans done for surgical planning.
4. Discuss your options with the Ophthalmologist ie. what type of lens and procedure.
5. Book in a date for surgery.
6. Have surgery.
7. Attend your follow up care appointments as your eye heals.

Individual treatment and recovery vary, so your Ophthalmologist will advise you based on your eyes and circumstances.

If you're coming to visit us via bus, the bus stop is right outside our building on Pittwater Road, near the corner of Winbourne Road and Old Pittwater Road.

Behind us we have free 2 hour parking where you can enter via Winbourne Road or Chard Road as well as street parking available.
