Some practices ask us to rise. To build strength, create heat, meet the edge of our capacity, & discover what we are capable of.
And then there are practices that ask something different.
Yin invites us to soften without collapsing, to stay without forcing. To listen without rushing to fix. It offers an opportunity to become more familiar with the quieter places within us, where tension, memory, resilience, & fatigue may have settled overtime.
This is the quiet medicine of yin, not because it is passive or easy, but because it asks for a different quality of attention.
In yin, the posture is not something to overcome. It becomes a place to simply notice.
Can I meet sensation with curiosity rather than resistance?
Can I honour my edge without pushing beyond it?
Can I allow the body to speak before the mind fills the silence?
Can I be present with what feels subtle, slow, or unfinished?
We live in a world that often celebrates speed, productivity, & constant movement. Yin gently reminds us that not everything meaningful arrives that way. Some things unfold slowly, some truths can only be heard when we become quiet enough to listen.
Perhaps that is why this practice continues to feel so nourishing.
Beneath the bolsters, the shapes, the long holds, & the stillness, yin offers us the simple practice of being with ourselves. Not the polished version. Not the one performing or striving. Just the honest self that quietly emerges when there is nothing left to do but be.
Join me for a deep dive into this practice on Thursdays @9:30am. DM for details
