What are MACROS… and why should you care? 🤔

You’ve probably heard people talk about “tracking macros” and wondered… what does that even mean?

Macros = Macronutrients = the nutrients your body needs in larger amounts to fuel, repair and function.

They are different to:
❌ Calories (the total energy in food)
❌ The weight of your food on the scales

For example:
120g of protein does NOT equal 120g of chicken! 🍗
(Trust me… your dinner plate would look very different 😂)

Your macros are based on YOU:
✔️ Age
✔️ Height
✔️ Weight
✔️ S*x
✔️ Activity levels
✔️ Your goals

And they aren’t set forever!

As your body changes/ages, your weight changes, your activity changes and your goals change… your numbers may need to change too.

This is why:
👉 copying someone else’s macros rarely works (it's frustrating reading "What are your numbers please?" in the comment section of weight loss posts 🙄
👉 you sometimes hit plateaus
👉 what worked 5 years ago, or even 5mths ago, might not work now

Your body is constantly adapting.

So what are the big 4?

🥩 Protein (amino acids)
Builds and repairs your body - especially muscle, skin and tissues.

🍌 Carbohydrates
Your body’s preferred fuel source for energy, movement and recovery.

🥑 Fats
Important for hormones, brain function, cells and protecting your organs.

💧 Water
Often forgotten… but essential for almost every process in your body.

(And yes - micronutrients like vitamins and minerals matter too… but that’s another post 😉)

For women over 40, getting your balance right with protein, carbs and fats can make a HUGE difference to:
💪 maintaining muscle
🔥 improving body composition
⚡ energy levels
🏃‍♀️ performance and recovery

Macro tracking can feel overwhelming at first… but understanding what your body needs is a game changer.

I was never built for that - and neither are you!
Yes, I have Osteoarthritis - (Grade 4) in my shoulders, but that's even more reason to move them.
I refuse to give in to a sedentry life, watching life instead of participating in it...which is why I'm still able to throw a 10kg dumbbell over my head with these shoulders.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that OA means they should “protect” the joint by avoiding movement. Usually, the opposite is true. 😊

Think of the joint like a door hinge:
💚 If it sits still for a long time → it becomes stiff & uncomfortable.
💚 If it moves regularly → it stays more functional.
How can you move, modify and strengthen so you can keep doing the things you love? 💚

We often focus on what our bodies look like...

But what about what our bodies allow us to DO?

🌊 Walk along the beach
🚐 Travel Australia
🧳 Carry your own bags
👣 Explore new places
👧 Keep up with the people you love

Strength isn't just about lifting weights.

It's about having the confidence to say: “Yes, I can do that.”

As women, especially after 40 and 50, our focus shouldn't be shrinking ourselves.

It should be building a body that supports the life we want to live.

This is why I created Fit to Roam - fitness that fits into REAL life.

My next group of women starts soon. 💚 Interested??

Everyone seems to have an opinion about GLP-1s these days...

And, there sure are a lot of "experts" & "specialists" getting around all of a sudden - yet no human trials have been finished in regards to some of the peptides... 🤔

So, rather than relying on social media, I'm starting a GLP-1 Certification for fitness professionals tomorrow, through an Australian registered training organisation... so I can better understand the science and help women make informed decisions.

If you'd like me to share the facts (without the hype), or chat with me for some advice, give this post a 👍 and I'll bring you along for the journey.

✨️ "Donna has given me back my confidence in movement over the past 5 months"✨️

💚 ...The scale doesn't tell you this

➡️ It doesn't measure confidence.
➡️ It doesn't measure freedom.
➡️ It doesn't measure being able to move without fear.

You've all been told to eat Greek Yoghurt, granola & berries for a high protein breakfast right?

Most of you however, are skipping the vital ingredient to MAKE this breakfast high protein...

Sadly, 2 tablespoons of Greek Yoghurt provides approx 4g of protein... the museli - about 3g... 🤔 Hardly the 20-30g you should be aiming for at each meal...

But... add in a scoop of high quality protein powder, mix it well, and suddenly you've boosted your breakfast to 30g of protein total!

This meal below, with 1/2 a banana, blueberries & passionfruit:

🔥 Calories: ~375 - 390kcal
💪 Protein: ~31- 32g
🍌 Carbohydrates: ~48g
🥜 Fat: ~7g

This is a 9/10 post-workout breakfast.

Why?

✅ Excellent protein (30+ g is ideal for muscle maintenance and recovery).
✅ Good mix of fast and slower-release carbs from the fruit and muesli.
✅ Plenty of fibre.
✅ Not overly high in fat, so it won't sit heavily.

Adding the protein powder is KEY for the perfect balance 🌿💚
