What are MACROS… and why should you care? 🤔
You’ve probably heard people talk about “tracking macros” and wondered… what does that even mean?
Macros = Macronutrients = the nutrients your body needs in larger amounts to fuel, repair and function.
They are different to:
❌ Calories (the total energy in food)
❌ The weight of your food on the scales
For example:
120g of protein does NOT equal 120g of chicken! 🍗
(Trust me… your dinner plate would look very different 😂)
Your macros are based on YOU:
✔️ Age
✔️ Height
✔️ Weight
✔️ S*x
✔️ Activity levels
✔️ Your goals
And they aren’t set forever!
As your body changes/ages, your weight changes, your activity changes and your goals change… your numbers may need to change too.
This is why:
👉 copying someone else’s macros rarely works (it's frustrating reading "What are your numbers please?" in the comment section of weight loss posts 🙄
👉 you sometimes hit plateaus
👉 what worked 5 years ago, or even 5mths ago, might not work now
Your body is constantly adapting.
So what are the big 4?
🥩 Protein (amino acids)
Builds and repairs your body - especially muscle, skin and tissues.
🍌 Carbohydrates
Your body’s preferred fuel source for energy, movement and recovery.
🥑 Fats
Important for hormones, brain function, cells and protecting your organs.
💧 Water
Often forgotten… but essential for almost every process in your body.
(And yes - micronutrients like vitamins and minerals matter too… but that’s another post 😉)
For women over 40, getting your balance right with protein, carbs and fats can make a HUGE difference to:
💪 maintaining muscle
🔥 improving body composition
⚡ energy levels
🏃♀️ performance and recovery
Macro tracking can feel overwhelming at first… but understanding what your body needs is a game changer.
