We hope everyone will agree with us and support all Australians accessing EP services by filling out this short petition (which already has over 16,000 signatures): https://bit.ly/4fimj1p
Healthcare should be about access β not added costs.
When the Howard government first introduced the Goods and Services Act in 2000, many essential healthcare services were rightly made tax-free. At the time, Exercise Physiology was still an emerging profession and was excluded from the list.
Fast forward to today, and exercise physiology is now recognised across Medicare, the DVA, NDIS, WorkCover QLD and private health insurers as an evidence-based healthcare service that plays a vital role in preventing and managing chronic disease, pain, injury and mental health conditions.
Yet, despite this recognition, Australians are still paying an additional 10% GST on every exercise physiology appointment.
For many people living with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, neurological conditions and obesity, ongoing care is not optional β it is essential. The added cost can create unnecessary barriers to treatment, particularly for older Australians, people living with disability, and those already facing financial pressure.
Removing GST from exercise physiology would help make preventive, evidence-based healthcare more affordable and accessible for the people who need it most. Not just here in Bundaberg, but all of Australia.
Itβs time for policy to reflect modern healthcare.
As an EP for over 6 years, I support the push to have Exercise Physiology recognised as a GST-free health service under the GST Act and help improve access to care for Australians. Please show your support and sign the petition: https://bit.ly/4fimj1p
