When your milk first comes in, your breasts can suddenly feel incredibly full, firm and uncomfortable. Hello, engorgement! 🫣

The good news? It’s common, particularly in those early days.

Offer your baby frequent feeds and, if they’re struggling to latch because the breast is very firm, gently hand expressing a little milk beforehand may help soften the area.

Cool packs after feeds can also provide some welcome relief. ❄️

Postpartum Sleep Tip #1: Honour the Nap 💤

Even short bursts of rest matter.

A 20–30 minute nap while bub snoozes can help restore your energy and improve your mood. Think of naps as medicine, not an indulgence.

When you’re caring for a newborn, rest doesn’t always come in long stretches. Taking the opportunity to sleep when you can still counts. 💛

"But breastfeeding is natural… shouldn't I just know how to do it?"

If you've ever had that thought, you're far from alone. 💗

Breastfeeding is natural, but that doesn't mean it always happens easily or instinctively.

You're learning.

Your baby is learning.

Your body is recovering from birth while beginning the enormous job of producing milk. And you're doing all of this while adjusting to life with a newborn.

There can be questions about attachment, positioning, milk supply, ni**le pain, feeding frequency and whether your baby is actually getting enough.

You don't receive extra points for figuring it all out alone.

If feeding hurts, you're worried about supply or something simply doesn't feel right, reaching out early can help identify what's happening and give you practical strategies tailored to you and your baby.

Breastfeeding support isn't a sign that you've failed. It's part of the journey. 💛

Found a sore, tender lump that just won’t seem to budge? 💛

Rather than vigorously massaging or repeatedly pumping, continue feeding your baby normally and keep things gentle.

Cold packs after feeds may help with swelling and discomfort too.

And if that stubborn lump isn’t improving, it’s worth getting some personalised support.

Does breastmilk suddenly lose its goodness when your baby turns one? Absolutely not. 💗

There’s a persistent myth that after 12 months breastmilk somehow “turns to water” or becomes little more than a source of comfort.

Your milk doesn’t know when your toddler has blown out their first birthday candle. 🎂

Breastmilk continues to provide nutrition and immune-supporting components beyond the first year. As your child grows, breastfeeding simply becomes one part of an increasingly varied diet.

And yes, breastfeeding can provide comfort and connection too. That doesn’t make it nutritionally meaningless.

There’s no magic cut-off where breastmilk suddenly stops being valuable.

If breastfeeding beyond 12 months works for you and your little one, there’s no need to feel that your milk has somehow passed its use-by date. 💛

Worried your baby isn’t getting enough milk? You’re definitely not alone. 💛

Milk supply works largely on supply and demand, so frequent and effective milk removal is important.

But before adding endless pumping sessions or “top-up” pumps, it helps to understand what’s actually happening. Sometimes perceived low supply and true low supply are two very different things.

A feeding assessment can help take the guesswork out of it and give you a plan that suits you and your baby.
