Did you know most Australian nursing students graduate with as little as one mental health unit and minimal time in an actual mental health setting?

The ACMHN has released a position statement calling for stronger mental health preparation in undergraduate nursing degrees. Around 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition in any given year, so every nurse will care for people in mental distress at some point, no matter their chosen specialty.

We are calling for compulsory mental health theory and clinical placement hours in designated mental health settings, taught by nurses with specialist qualifications, along with expanded pathways for students who want to specialise early.

Thank you to our sponsors Healthe Care, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Hunter New England Local Health District, and to all our exhibitors for being part of the day.

See you at the next one.

It's Infant Mental Health Awareness Week. This year's focus is Attunement - the ability to tune in and connect with a baby on an emotional level.

Attuned relationships help babies feel safe, regulate their emotions, and get off to the best start in life. Mental Health Nurses play a vital role in supporting those early connections.

What does ACMHN membership actually give you?

Discounted access to credentialing. CPD. Special interest groups. A community of mental health nurses across Australia. And a collective voice advocating for the profession at the national level.

We've been the peak body for mental health nursing for over 50 years. This is where the profession comes together.

If you've been thinking about joining, EOFY is a great time to do it. Membership is tax-deductible, and anyone who joins before 30 June gets 13 months for the price of 12.

The ACMHN has released a new position statement on AI scribes in mental health nursing, and we want you to know about it.

The core message: no person should be denied mental health care because they said no to an AI recording their session.

Mental health consultations involve some of the most sensitive disclosures a person will ever make. Refusing AI note-taking is a valid choice, not non-compliance, and services must maintain a non-AI pathway for those who want one.
