FASD stands for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. It describes a range of lifelong impacts that can occur when a baby is exposed to alcohol before birth.

FASD can affect people in different ways, including how they learn, remember things, communicate and manage everyday tasks.

For someone living with FASD, simple things can help. Clear instructions, familiar routines, encouragement and patience can make everyday life a little easier and help people build on their strengths.

FASD Awareness Day is a chance to build understanding and recognise the strengths, abilities and different ways of learning of people living with FASD.

Everyone deserves to be understood, supported and given the chance to shine.

National Child Protection Week is a chance to recognise the important role families, carers, services and communities play in helping children feel safe, supported and connected.

For children, strong connections create space for all the things that matter. Laughter and learning. Culture and family. Friends, fun and feeling like they belong.

Listening to children, celebrating their strengths and encouraging their dreams all help create safe and caring communities where children can grow, learn and thrive.

This week, we say thank you to the families, carers, services and community members who help build these strong connections with children every day.

For support or information about services in your community, have a yarn with your local ACCHO.

Looking after your sexual health is part of looking after your overall health.

Talking about sexual health can sometimes feel a bit awkward, but there is no shame in asking questions, having a yarn or getting checked.

STIs don’t always have symptoms. You can feel completely healthy and still have an STI, which is why regular checks are important.

Whether you have questions about contraception, STI testing, relationships or something else, have a yarn.

Talk to your local ACCHO about getting checked or getting advice.

Heading to the beach? Keep an eye out for sick or dead birds.

H5 bird flu has been detected in wild seabirds along parts of the South Australian coast.

The risk to people is low, but there are some simple ways to help keep you, your family and your pets safe.

If you see a sick or dead bird:
• Don’t touch it
• Keep kids and pets away
• Keep dogs on leads
• Remember where you saw it
• Report it on 1800 675 888

If it is safe, you can also take a photo from a distance to help with reporting.

Our beaches and waterways are special places to spend time together. Keep enjoying them, just remember: Look. Keep your distance. Report.

For Indigenous Literacy Day, we asked our team to reflect on one simple question:
“What has working alongside Aboriginal communities taught you?”

Have a listen to what they shared.
