This week marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, an initiative that aims to build relationships, respect and trust between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

While it is important to participate in this week, it is more important to keep in mind that reconciliation is a goal that should be pursued on every day of the year. Our indigenous community deserves safety, dignity, and respect. It is important that we facilitate that however we can.

If you are a First Nations person in need of support such as counselling or mediation, please reach out to Better Place Australia at https://www.betterplaceaustralia.com.au/contact-us/

This May, start the conversation to end family violence.

If you’re worried someone you know might be experiencing family violence, it can be hard to know what to do. But you don’t need to be an expert. By just asking, listening and believing, you can make a huge difference.

🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ Today is Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Transgender and non-binary people are not a new phenomenon. They are everyday people with their own lives and dreams, and they deserve the same love and respect that we would extend to anybody else.

Separation is one of the biggest financial shocks a family can face.

Two households instead of one. Legal costs. Housing stress. Income disruption.

Family law services help individuals and families resolve parenting and property matters early, reducing the need for costly litigation and helping stabilise housing arrangements.

In fact, the non-adversarial nature of family law services brings key benefits for separating families: improved mental health and subjective wellbeing, reduced violence and improved feelings of safety.

They also reduce pressure on courts and governments and deliver real return on public investment.

Supporting family law services is not just social policy. It is an economic stability policy.

The following is courtesy of Family & Relationship Services Australia, of which Better Place Australia is a member. We would like to address Victorian Treasurer Jim Chalmers MP, as well as Attorney General Michelle Rowland MP.

Family law services provide resolution and early intervention at a time of great uncertainty and trauma.

Every year, tens of thousands of Australian individuals and families use services like Family Relationship Centres, Family Law Counselling, Family Dispute Resolution services, the Family Relationship Advice Line to reach safe, workable agreements without going to court.

These services reduce conflict, protect children from prolonged disputes and help families stabilise during one of the hardest periods of their lives.

Early support prevents escalation. It protects children. It strengthens communities. Family law services are vital for Australian families, not just an optional extra in the justice system.

March 19 is the National Day for Closing the Gap.

However, Closing the Gap is a daily effort that requires our immediate and unwavering attention. The fact is that Indigenous people are not provided the same level of basic human rights that we take for granted. Reforms are desperately needed across education, health and justice so that our First Nations people are not discriminated against.

The Government needs to act. However, as the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre notes, there are actions that every day citizens have a responsibility to enact. You can read more about that at: https://asrc.org.au/2026/03/19/its-time-for-real-change-this-close-the-gap-day/

Today is the first day of Harmony Week (March 16-22), a week in which we acknowledge and celebrate the various cultures and backgrounds that weave together to help Australia be the wonderful and welcoming tapestry of a country that it is.

Multiculturalism always has been and always will be a pivotal part of this country. Throughout history, we've learned time and time again that we thrive as a community when we treat everybody with the respect and inclusivity, and everybody has a sense of belonging.

The 16th to the 20th of March is Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Over those four days (and long after), we want to spread awareness about the many facets of those experiencing neurological differences.

There is a stigma surrounding neurodivergence, with many operating under the erroneous assumption that conditions like Autism and ADHD are signifiers of a lack of capability. The truth is the complete opposite. Neurodivergent people are just as capable as their neurotypical peers.

This week, we recommend that you:
- Research the conditions that fall under the umbrella of being neurodivergent
- Reach out to your neurodivergent friends and loved ones to learn about their individual experiences
- Support neurodivergent artists and creators
- Donate to organisations that support neurodivergence

Additionally, if you're neurodivergent and you need a safe space to express yourself, you can reach Better Place Australia at betterplaceaustralia.com.au.
