🌈🐾 Colour Sorting Fun at Isis Kindy! 🐾🌈
Following the children’s growing interest in colour sorting and colour recognition, we extended their learning through a hands-on colour sorting experience.
The children were provided with a range of coloured bowls, tweezers and colourful animals. They carefully used the tweezers to pick up each animal and sort it into the matching coloured bowl. 🌈🔴🟡🔵🟢
What looked like a simple sorting activity provided so many opportunities for learning! The children were encouraged to recognise and name colours, match and classify objects, concentrate on a task and make decisions about where each animal belonged.
The use of tweezers also provided a wonderful opportunity to support individual learning goals around developing fine-motor strength, coordination and control. As children grasped, squeezed and released the tweezers, they were strengthening the small muscles in their hands and developing the hand-eye coordination needed for future skills such as drawing, cutting and writing. ✍️💪
This experience connects strongly with the QKLG, particularly Active Learning, as children investigate, problem-solve, make connections, develop persistence and use their emerging mathematical thinking to sort and classify. It also supports Communication as children name colours, share their thinking and communicate their ideas with educators and peers. 🗣️💭
We love seeing where children’s interests can take their learning — following their curiosity and extending it through intentional play and meaningful experiences. ❤️🌿
