Have you noticed redness, darker patches or changes in skin texture when caring for someone with incontinence?

These may be early signs of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) — skin inflammation caused by prolonged contact with urine or faeces. Without timely care, IAD can progress quickly, leading to discomfort, skin damage and an increased risk of infection.

A consistent skincare routine can help reduce the risk:
• Cleanse gently and promptly after incontinence episodes.
• Avoid harsh soaps and rubbing.
• Apply a suitable barrier product to clean, dry skin.
• Change continence products regularly.
• Check vulnerable areas for early skin changes.

Signs may include redness on lighter skin; purple, darker or ashen areas on darker skin and skin that feels itchy, painful, swollen, moist or unusually soft.

Recognising these changes early can help protect skin health, comfort and dignity.

Learn how to identify IAD, support healthy skin and understand when to seek professional advice:

Men's Health Week is a timely reminder that some health issues men experience are far more common than many realise — including short-term urinary incontinence.

In Australia, around 2.4 million men experience bladder or bowel incontinence, yet many delay seeking support due to embarrassment or stigma.

The good news? In many cases, particularly following prostate surgery, incontinence is temporary and can improve significantly with the right support, treatment and management strategies.

This Men's Health Week, let's encourage open conversations about continence health and remind men that they don't have to navigate these challenges alone.

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor in healthcare procurement.

As organisations work towards reducing waste and emissions, suppliers must ensure environmental claims are clear, accurate and backed by evidence.

Terms like "green" and "eco-friendly" can be powerful, but transparency is key. Credible certifications, measurable outcomes and lifecycle considerations help build trust and support informed purchasing decisions.
