Big ❤️ to Nursing Solutions Group for sharing and support our little event.

Make sure you register and attend for next Tuesday.

💙 When a community comes together, incredible things happen!

We are proud to be attending the Mini Service Expo—a collaborative community event proudly supported by Need a Feed, in partnership with Heartwork Mental Health & NDIS Services and the Berkeley Neighbourhood Centre.

This is not just another expo—it is an opportunity to connect people with the services, organisations and supports that make a real difference in our community.

Whether you are looking for support for yourself, a family member, a friend or you simply want to learn more about what is available locally, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet service providers face-to-face in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

You will be able to explore a wide range of local services, including:

💙 NDIS supports
💙 Mental health services
💙 Community organisations
💙 Health and wellbeing providers
💙 Family and social supports
💙 Information, resources and local connections

Events like this remind us that no one organisation can do it all—but together, we can build stronger communities by connecting people with the right support at the right time.

A huge thank you to Need a Feed, Heartwork Mental Health & NDIS Services and the Berkeley Neighbourhood Centre for creating a space where collaboration comes first and our community can access valuable information all in one place.

📍 Come along, say hello, ask questions, collect resources and discover the amazing organisations working every day to support the Illawarra community.

I’ve had the privilege of mentoring a young man for almost six years, supporting him through different stages of his journey.

When we first met, he faced significant challenges associated with a neurodevelopmental condition that had gone largely unsupported throughout his school years.

As a result, he often struggled socially, lacked confidence, found it difficult to connect with others, and was extremely uncomfortable being in front of a camera.
Fast forward to today, and the growth has been remarkable.

He has worked incredibly hard to build his confidence, develop social skills, strengthen relationships, and step outside of his comfort zone.

The progress he has made is a testament to his determination and willingness to keep moving forward, even when things felt difficult.

Now, you might be looking at this photo and thinking, “But that’s you, Joel!” 🤔 And you’d be right.

Here’s why that matters.
For years, he avoided having his photo taken. So imagine my surprise when our local Recovery Club asked us to be part of an advertising campaign and he confidently said, “Yes!” 😝

Although you can’t see him in this image, he is there❤️

What might seem like a small moment to some was actually a huge milestone.
These days, in addition to this, he’s competed a diploma at TAFE, got engaged, and we’re also competing together as in fitness challenges at our local gym.

Not only is he showing up and giving it his all, but he’s embracing opportunities that once would have felt impossible.

Last month, we finished 1st and 3rd in the challenge 🥇🥉
The medals are great, but they’re not the real achievement.

The real achievement is the confidence gained, the friendships formed, the challenges overcome, and the courage to keep growing.

I’m incredibly proud of how far he has come, and excited to see where his journey takes him next.

A dream I’ve been working towards for a very long time became reality this week.

Heartwork is the result of 15 years of hard work, lessons learned, setbacks, persistence, and more tears than I’d care to admit.

Against the odds, we’re continuing to grow, and this is another exciting step forward.

I’m also aware that putting a giant Heartwork-branded vehicle on the road may have increased my visibility somewhat. So, if seeing it sparks the urge to shake your fist, mutter under your breath, throw a brick (please don’t), or report my driving because you’ve mistaken a zipper merge for a personal attack…

There are healthier options.

Talk to someone. Consider therapy. Or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, call the number on the side of the car.

I might just be able to help. ❤️

At Heartwork, we believe effective mentoring and support starts with leading by example.

In our Gym Buddy Program, it’s not just about encouragement and accountability—it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and walking alongside our Gym Buddies every step of the way.

This month, we’re doing exactly that as we join our Gym Buddy in the pursuit of winning his local gym’s members challenge.

It’s inspiring to see the commitment, determination, and growth that can happen when people are supported to achieve their goals.

We’re proud to be part of the journey, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes.

Watch this space—this is going to be something special. 💪🔥

📍 NEWCASTLE, HERE WE COME!

I’m excited to announce that Heartwork Mental Health Services and NDIS services is expanding its presence in Newcastle and the surrounding region.

At Heartwork, we believe that accessing support should be simple, practical, and centred around you. Mental health support doesn’t have to happen within the four walls of an office. Whether it’s in a counselling room, over a coffee, on a walk, at the gym, or in a space where you feel most comfortable, we’re committed to making support more accessible and meaningful.

Our services focus on:

❤️ Counselling
❤️ Mental Health Mentoring
❤️ Psychosocial Support
❤️ Fitness & Wellbeing Integration
❤️ Community-Based Support

We understand that everyone’s journey is different, which is why we tailor our approach to meet people where they’re at—both literally and emotionally.

If you’re in Newcastle and looking for compassionate, affordable, and practical mental health support, we’d love to connect.

It’s been a huge month of progress with someone Heartwork has been supporting over the past five years.

From day one, our mindset has always been “slow and steady wins the race” — an approach that isn’t always appreciated in KPI-driven environments. But for us, the real measure of success has never been speed. It’s been about long-term growth, building confidence, and creating genuine independence.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Every time we seemed close to overcoming one hurdle, another would appear 😡. The biggest setback came with a hospital admission, which forced us back to square one — rebuilding trust, confidence, and independence all over again.

So, what changed?

Patience. Persistence. Learning when to step back, remove pressure, and approach things from a different perspective. But just as importantly, recognising that the previous service provider simply wasn’t meeting the person’s needs.

In the space of just one month, a new Psychological Support Worker has achieved more than the previous providers managed in an entire year. As a result, trust has grown stronger than ever before. That trust has now allowed us to engage in new capacity building skills, and to leave the family home, travel outside the local area, and visit the Nan Tien Temple — something we all believe will play an important role in this person’s mental health journey.

And that’s really the point.

Progress in complex cases takes time. It takes patience, understanding, consistency, and the willingness to adapt. Real relationships aren’t built overnight — they’re built through trust, persistence, and showing up, even after setbacks.

For us, that small trip to the temple felt like winning the lotto, and we truly hope it becomes the first of many more to come.

Namaste
