👶🏽🤍 Welcoming Our Jarjums to Community 🤍👶🏽

Over the past two days, families, community members and service providers came together in Dalby and Chinchilla to celebrate our little ones at the Welcome Baby to Community ceremonies, delivered in partnership with Goondir Health Services.

The day began with an introduction from Natalie Hobbs (Darling Downs Health) and Linda Lee (Goondir Health Services), followed by a heartfelt Welcome to Country from local Traditional Owners. Families were then blessed with song and a Smoking Ceremony led by David McCarthy Jnr, creating a meaningful and culturally rich start to the celebrations.

These special events provided families with the opportunity to register their babies' births, while each bub received a Welcome Baby to Community certificate and a bundle of goodies to mark the occasion.

Most importantly, the ceremonies celebrated culture, connection, family and community—welcoming our newest generation with love and support as they begin their journey.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make these events so special. We look forward to continuing to support our families and celebrating our deadly Jarjums. 💙✨

We recently joined Wulli Wulli artist Arabella Walker to view the first mock-up of her artwork for the New Toowoomba Hospital 🌿🏥

This large-scale facade piece is inspired by the native plants and landscapes of the Darling Downs and offers a glimpse into how art will be thoughtfully incorporated into the building to enrich the experience for patients, staff, and visitors.

Following a competitive procurement process, Arabella was chosen for her strong emerging practice and her concept, Healing with Country, which reflects the landscapes, culture and stories of the Darling Downs.

Seeing the design in physical form for the first time was a special moment, both for Arabella and the project team. We can’t wait to see the full artwork come to life!

🖤💛❤️ Keep Mob Safe – Check Your Diphtheria Protection ❤️💛🖤

Our brothers and sisters in the Northern Territory are currently dealing with a diphtheria outbreak, so now is a good time to make sure you and your family are protected.

Diphtheria can cause skin infections and sore throats and spreads through coughing, sneezing and close contact. In some cases, the bacteria can produce a dangerous toxin that can lead to serious illness.

The good news is that diphtheria vaccination is FREE for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland aged 20 years and over if you need:
✔️ A full course of 3 doses
✔️ A booster dose if your last vaccination was more than 10 years ago
✔️ A booster dose if your last vaccination was more than 5 years ago and you're travelling to a high-risk area

If you have a skin sore or sore throat, don't wait — see your doctor or health clinic.

📍 Have a yarn with your local health service and check whether your vaccinations are up to date.

Looking after ourselves helps protect our children, Elders, families and communities.
