Some of our younger participants have been with ACRS for a few years now, and lately their weeks have been full of the practical skills that independence is built on.

Recent outings have taken them to the supermarket, choosing their own groceries, working to a budget, and paying with a bank card at the checkout, along with trips to the library and the museum to browse the shelves and explore the exhibits.

These are participants we have known for years, and watching them manage a shop from choosing items to paying at the checkout shows how far they have come. Building capacity in daily living skills and community access is a core part of how we plan support, with each outing shaped around what each participant is ready to try next.

We are always happy to discuss our range of support services. Get in touch with our team today:

Familiar faces matter in a SIL home. Participants settle into their day more easily when the team member helping them is one they already know well.

We build our rosters around that. The same team members work with the same participants week to week, learning how each person likes their morning to run, how they communicate on a difficult day, and what a good week looks like for them. Nobody is starting from scratch, so support stays calm and steady.

Routine and predictability are recognised support needs for many participants, and consistent rostering is how we meet them across our Darwin SIL homes.

We are always happy to have an open conversation about the right support:

Raelene came home from a short trip to Melbourne this month with a birthday gift for Gloria, having remembered her birthday while she was away. It is these thoughtful moments and friendships that make our homes feel like family.

During a typical week, participants are in the kitchen preparing meals, getting active in the backyard, and setting aside time for personal care, each day shaped around what each person chooses. Food is often at the centre of it. Cooking together, sharing a meal, and firing up the barbecue are regular parts of how the household runs, with team members planning and working alongside each participant, following their lead.

Assistance with daily living skills, personal care, and physical activity is built into every week across our Darwin homes.

We are always happy to discuss our range of support services. Get in touch with our team today:

For some of our participants, family does not live close by. They live in remote communities across the Territory, and the ACRS team makes it possible for them to stay connected to the people who matter most, their grandchildren and extended family.

Our team coordinates these trips from end to end, managing the logistics so participants can return to Country. This year, we supported several participants to make the journey back. Being surrounded by their grandchildren and re-engaging with their culture leaves them grounded, content, and exactly where they want to be.

When we plan support, bridging that distance and supporting our participants' emotional well-being is a core part of what we do.

At ACRS, we encourage every participant to explore activities that bring them joy, and music is one that keeps surfacing. Engaging with music offers real benefits, helping participants regulate their emotions, stimulate their senses, and support their overall wellbeing.

Our goal is to build environments where participants feel secure enough to express themselves freely. When that happens, it is a sign that the relationships between participants and team members are strong, and that the home they are living in is working the way it should.

We are always happy to have a conversation about our services and how we can support your participant.

At ACRS, we are dedicated to supporting our participants in maximizing their community engagement, especially during the beautiful Darwin dry season. Over the past few weeks, our team has proudly supported participants in accessing the community and enjoying a range of social and recreational activities. From scenic walks at Lee Point and exploring the local weekend markets, to active recreation with backyard basketball and social inclusion at an evening live music event, it has been a fantastic time.

We understand that accessing the outdoors and participating in community life are vital components of holistic health and wellbeing. Regular exposure to fresh air, natural sunlight, and varied environments directly contributes to improved emotional health, better sleep quality, and increased daily energy. These goal-oriented supports make a profound difference to everyday quality of life for the people we assist. This is what person-centred support looks like during the dry season at ACRS.

If you are a support coordinator or family carer looking at SIL options in Darwin, this is a good time to get in touch.

ACRS has current SIL vacancies at our homes in Wanguri and Wulagi, along with an SDA vacancy at Bayview. We encourage you to reach out directly so we can discuss specific support needs and determine if our environment is the right fit.

Our homes are set up for a range of support needs, including participants with mobility requirements, those needing high intensity care, and participants with complex daily living or behaviour support needs.
