🩷 World Breastfeeding Week 🩷
Breastfeeding has been one of the most magical, exhausting, beautiful, overwhelming, and deeply bonding experiences of my motherhood journey. It has been an incredible act of love and connection that I've been so grateful to share with each of my babies.
I feel incredibly thankful that I've been able to breastfeed all three of my children for varying lengths of time. Altogether, I've now been breastfeeding for 4.5 years and counting, as I'm still feeding my youngest bubba. Wow. 🤘
That doesn't mean the journey has always been easy. In fact, with my second baby, it was the most painful and emotionally overwhelming experience I've ever faced. I've had cracked and bleeding ni***es, skin torn so deeply it's a wonder I still have ni***es 😭, pain so intense it's almost impossible to describe unless you've experienced it yourself, and moments where I questioned whether I could keep going.
But with determination, perseverance, and the support of my partner and my mum, I made it through. Looking back, despite the challenges, I still wouldn't choose any other journey for myself.
For me personally, breastfeeding has been one of the greatest gifts I've been able to give my children in the beginning of their lives.
Breastmilk itself amazes me with how many beneficial things it is made up of perfect for our babies. The way it changes to meet our babies' developmental needs, adapts when they're unwell, and continually provides exactly what they need is something I'll never stop being in awe of.
I am very aware breastfeeding isn't easy or an option for every mother. Every family's journey is different, and every mum is doing the very best she can with the circumstances she has. This isn't about comparison or making anyone feel less than. Motherhood is so much more than how we feed our babies.
To every mum who has breastfed, is breastfeeding or plans/hopes to breastfeed, no matter for how long, just know you are seen in the mess of it all, the good the bad the overwhelming sacrifice.
You are doing an incredible job 🌝
