A present for Tomorrow You

When I work with clients in therapy setting up new habits, I teach a strategy called Tomorrow You. It means prepping everything beforehand to make it as easy as possible to do the thing you want to do later on. It sounds so simple but you feel gratitude, you feel loved and seen when someone makes your life easier , even if that person was you. yesterday .

Mother’s Day is approaching, some people have bought presents, some end up in a last minute dash.

However, some mums are already mourning the fact that they won’t be celebrated . Maybe they have fractured relationships with fathers or adolescent children. Maybe that’s the way things have been for a while.

If that is you, it is time for Today You to think of Mother’s Day You. Buy a present, put it away for when sadness comes. Bake a treat , arrange for breakfast to be delivered. If money is tight , figure out a way : overnight oats is oats and chopped fruit or jam with milk or water or yogurt , that’s a sweet breakfast . Put a freshly folded towel with a wild flower on top by the shower or bath , slip a chocolate on your pillow… The trick is to arrange things beforehand so, in the midst of sadness, you don’t have to also think about what to do or skip a meal. Write Tomorrow You a card with the kindness you would give a child.
