Dr Bonnie Ong I'm a perinatal GP and breastfeeding medicine doctor (IBCLC) for mums and babies in Brisbane and a mum of 2 kiddos. The latter is definitely the harder job!

I felt so privileged to know baby Leah's name before she was born. Then to finally meet her - heart melt! Congrats Sarah and Ben - well done! Your little princess is gorgeous and clearly has you both wrapped around her pretty little fingers 😍

Well overdue but couldn't miss the opportunity to celebrate Levi's arrival! I like to think this handsome little man is looking at me in this photo 🤭. Congrats again beautiful Esther and Gerald! You guys are awesome parents! Levi has been making excellent progress since this photo, including with that impressive hairdo (takes after Dad 😜). I look forward to seeing him at his 4 month check in soon with all his new tricks.

What an honour to present at the Australian Breastfeeding Association Queensland Conference this weekend on Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER). I was blown away by the passion of this committed group of volunteers who give so much of themselves to support parents in their endeavours to feed their babies. Also had the unexpected joy of meeting in person finally! So thankful for this community of care providers that I'm proud to call my colleagues. Thank you for having me

I'll admit I did not know much about breastfeeding medicine as a doctor. Then after a very difficult time feeding my babies, I realised that in order to provide the type of comprehensive, holistic, wrap-around perinatal care in the community that I would have wanted as a new mum, I needed to upskill. And boy, am I glad I did! Being an IBCLC has transformed my medical practice. As a breastfeeding medicine doctor, I have the incredible privilege and perspective of caring for both mum and baby beyond what I had been able to achieve in a typical general practice consult. In the process, I've developed a deep respect for the many experienced, knowledgeable and wise LCs and breastfeeding doctors I've since met, befriended and learned from. To these incredible IBCLCs, thank you for all you do to improve the health of mums and babies. I look forward to learning from you and working with you in years to come! To those sitting IBCLC exams this year - you got this!

Cuddles with 6 day old Isabelle! With her full head of hair and sweet features, she melted many hearts with her visit - reception, doctors and medical students alike. Hayley, what a journey you've been on these 9 months. Thank you for inviting me along. I've loved getting to know you, chatting to your very respectful sweet boys, and finally getting to meet Epa too. You two have created such a beautiful family. Congratulations and the best of wishes as you settle into life as a family of 5! Xx Dr Bonnie

Wishing you a wonderful first Christmas and New Year with Miss Zara xx

I've been quiet on socials lately (busy clinic and mum lyf!) but so grateful to have a moment with this beautiful mum Mikaylah and her gorgeous squishy Eleiana ❤️. Thank you for entrusting me with your family's care Mikaylah. She's grown so much in a week already and I look forward to watching her blossom over the months ahead.

I confess, I feel like a total hypocrite with this post 😬. I'm the worst at this. My husband frequently reminds me to exercise. I have multiple massage vouchers that have been gifted to me that are sitting on my bedside table, probably expiring. But I will make the book week costume, get the kids to the dentist and battle through homework help. So this post is for me as much as it is for the mums I saw in clinic today who put off their own healthcare needs while not missing a beat with their babies.

This year's theme for Women's Health Week is "Say Yes to You." Whether it's sleeping an hour earlier instead of staying up to do the housework (me last night!), going for a walk instead of doom scrolling (guilty!), getting that blood test instead of letting the form disintegrate in the depths of the handbag (yep!), let's start looking after our own needs too.

PS: I did my blood test last week! 💪🏻 A step at a time...
