💜 Big Feelings? Your Body Is Trying to Tell You Something
Being a teenager can feel like A LOT.
School. Friends. Family. Social media. Expectations. Hormones. Figuring out who you are.
Sometimes emotions can feel so big that you don't know what to do with them.
And that's okay. 💜
When you're angry, anxious, overwhelmed or upset, try giving your body a chance to slow down before reacting.
🌬️ Breathe
Take 3 slow breaths. Breathe in gently, then make your exhale a little longer.
🏃 Move
Go for a walk, stretch, dance, shake your arms out or play a sport. Your body doesn't have to stay frozen with the feeling.
🎧 Change your environment
Put on music, step outside, have a shower or find somewhere quiet for a few minutes.
📝 Get it out
Write it down. Draw it. Voice-note it. You don't have to make it perfect, just get the thoughts somewhere outside your head.
💬 Talk to someone
A parent, friend, teacher, counsellor or another trusted adult. You don't have to figure everything out by yourself.
🫶 Name what you're feeling
Try:
“I feel ______ because ______. What I need right now is ______.”
And remember...
You don't have to get rid of an emotion to regulate it.
You can learn to notice it, make space for it and choose what you do next.
Your feelings are real.
Your feelings are allowed.
And you are not your feelings. 💜
If an emotion feels too big, lasts a long time, or you don't feel safe, please reach out to a trusted adult or mental health professional. Asking for help isn't weakness — it's taking care of yourself.
✨ Save this for the next time your emotions feel like too much.
