Knock knees (genu valgum) occur when a child's knees tilt inward and touch while the ankles stay apart; while this is a normal developmental phase between the ages of 2 and 4 that usually self-corrects by age 7, persistence beyond this point requires early intervention to protect the lower limb kinetic chain.

When left untreated, the inward angle forces the feet to roll inward excessively, causing severe flat feet, leg fatigue, an awkward gait, and joint pain.

Actively managing this condition early through custom orthotics, supportive footwear, and hip-strengthening exercises is crucial because it relieves abnormal mechanical stress on growing joints and safeguards the child against long-term complications.
