When was the last time you rested without trying to achieve something?

Not to improve your health. Not to regulate your nervous system. Not to be more productive afterwards.

Just to be.

Somewhere along the way, many of us forgot how to do that. We learned that our value comes from doing, producing, caring for others, and pushing through. Rest became something we had to earn rather than something we were allowed to experience.

Every day in the clinic, I meet women carrying the weight of families, businesses, careers, relationships, and the endless mental load that comes with holding it all together. Many tell me they feel disconnected from themselves.

And I don’t think that’s surprising.

When every moment is filled with doing, achieving, planning, solving, and caring for others, there is very little space left to hear your own voice.

Here’s the part that might be controversial: rest is not the same as nervous system healing.

A healthy nervous system needs challenge as much as it needs recovery. It needs movement, connection, purpose, play, and experiences that expand our capacity. Rest alone is not the answer.

But rest offers something equally important.

Rest creates presence.

And when we become present, we can hear ourselves again. Our intuition. Our inner knowing. Our desires. The quiet voice beneath all the noise.

Sometimes rest looks like a massage. Sometimes it looks like sitting on the deck listening to the birds. Sometimes it looks like doing absolutely nothing at all.

Not because you’ve earned it. Not because you’re exhausted. But because you are human.

This is one of the reasons I created Ettalong Massage. Not simply as a place to treat pain, but as a space where people can pause without guilt. A space where nothing is expected of you. A space where, for a little while, you can remember what it feels like to simply be.

What if rest wasn’t something you had to earn?

What if it was how you found your way back to yourself?

I’ve just returned from a retreat in Chile with female business owners in health & wellness, and one of the biggest conversations was around the masculine versus feminine way of building a business.

The masculine teaches us to chase more: more strategy, more visibility, more growth, more doing. But the feminine asks us to go inward. To slow down enough to hear ourselves again.

One of our guides, Rosa, carried this quiet wisdom that stayed with me long after the retreat ended. She never did a healing course. Never took a Reiki training. Never learned how to “become” connected. She simply is deeply connected to her body, to the land, to nature, to intuition. And it made me realise how much of that knowing has been erased in Western culture.

We have been taught to constantly search outside ourselves for answers. More qualifications. More validation. More people telling us who we are and how we should build our lives and businesses.

But my biggest takeaway was this: stop outsourcing your knowing.

Because building a soul-led business requires an extraordinary amount of self-development. Your business will expose every place where you do not trust yourself: where you seek validation before taking action, where you stay small to be accepted, where you abandon your deeper vision because it feels safer to fit in.

And the truth is, this path will ask you to outgrow old versions of yourself over and over again.

For a long time, I thought discomfort meant I was on the wrong path. Now I see that sometimes discomfort is simply what it feels like to outgrow an identity that can no longer carry your future.

And maybe that is why certain callings never leave us alone.

If something keeps calling you through fear, through distraction, through every attempt to be realistic or safe, maybe it is your calling.

Maybe the real work is not learning how to force your way forward, but learning how to trust yourself deeply enough to follow what your soul and your body already know.

No amount of ‘use your words’ or ‘take a deep breath’ works if the body doesn’t feel safe first. Regulation isn’t a skill we teach. It’s an experience we provide. As a Physiotherapist I see this every single day. People come in carrying tension they didn’t even know they had…and it’s not until they’re on the table, held in a safe space, that their body finally exhales. That’s not coincidence. That’s co-regulation. That’s the power of intentional touch.

If you know our space, you might be wondering…why spa?

I’m not ready to share everything just yet, but I will say this…I’ve been working behind the scenes for a while, and Ettalong Massage is about to step into something much bigger.

We’re looking for the right people to grow with us.

Not just technically skilled, but aligned. Therapists who are interested in nervous system–based work, who value presence over pace, and who want to be part of a more intentional way of working.

We’re a busy, in-demand clinic, and we prioritise depth, presence, and quality of care in every session.

What we offer:
• Established clinic with consistent client demand
• We regularly turn clients away, opportunity to build a full caseload
• Flexible work options (part-time/full-time, contractor or employment)
• Space to grow within an evolving clinic

If this feels like you, or someone you know, I’d love to hear from you.

Please email your interest to [email protected]

And if someone comes to mind, send this their way. Word of mouth is how the rightpeople tend to find us.

Which one surprised you the most?

Massage isn’t always about muscles.

Some of the most common things we see are the ones people don’t expect, sinus issues that linger, ear pressure that won’t shift, dizziness, headaches, chest tightness.

The body holds onto more than we realise.

You can book a session with us anytime.

More information won’t help if you can’t feel what’s actually happening in your body.

Awareness is the starting point.
Everything else builds from there.

Your mind can rationalise, override, and push through, but your nervous system is always scanning for safety beneath the surface.

Through a process called neuroception, your body is constantly asking: am I safe or not? And it answers that question based on sensation, past experiences, and internal cues, not logic.

So even if you think you’re okay, if your body is holding tension, bracing, or dysregulation, your system will respond as if there’s still a threat. That’s why mindset work alone often falls short.

Healing begins when you work with the body, supporting your nervous system to feel safe again. Because when safety is felt, everything else can start to shift.

✨ It’s not just about changing your thoughts… it’s about rewiring your experience.
