Every person deserves to live with dignity, respect, safety and choice.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (15 June) is a reminder that abuse of older people can happen in many forms — financial, emotional, psychological, physical, social or neglect — and often by someone they know and trust. Raising awareness is one step towards prevention.
As our population ages, conversations around elder abuse, decision making, future planning, enduring powers of attorney, care arrangements and protecting vulnerable people become increasingly important.

Ageing should never mean losing your voice, independence or rights.

Today, wear purple, start a conversation, learn the signs, and help create communities where older people are valued, heard and protected. 💜

What would you do if you were given a second chance at life? And then a third?
For documentary photographer Andrew Chapman, surviving two life-saving transplants has given him a perspective few people ever experience. Rather than turning away from mortality, Andrew has spent decades documenting it, capturing the realities of organ donation, transplantation, and the everyday lives of Australians with honesty, compassion, and extraordinary insight.

12/06/2026

Andrew shares the powerful story behind his organ donation photography projects, including documenting both the withdrawal of life support and the life-changing gift of transplantation. His images have not only captured deeply human moments but have directly influenced decisions that helped save lives through organ donation.

NEW EPISODE OUT NOW...
In this episode, Catherine speaks with Andrew Chapman about his extraordinary journey through not one but two life-saving transplants, including receiving a liver transplant that saved his life and, years later, a kidney donated by his daughter. We explore how facing death reshaped his perspective, the emotional complexities of accepting a loved one’s organ donation, and why he remains endlessly curious about what comes next.

On 10 June, Australians are encouraged to pause and say two simple but powerful words: "thank you". 💙
Thank a First Responder Day recognises the hundreds of thousands of paid and volunteer first responders — and the families who support them — who show up during some of life’s most difficult moments to keep communities safe.
Police, paramedics, firefighters, SES, emergency dispatchers, volunteers and so many others often witness trauma most of us never see.
Today is a reminder that gratitude matters.
To every first responder and family member carrying the weight of service, sacrifice and care behind the scenes — thank you. We see you. 💙
Take a moment today to leave a message, write a card, or simply thank someone who has been there in a crisis. Because appreciation can have a meaningful impact on wellbeing and connection.

NEW EPISODE OUT NOW
Catherine is joined by Jean Kittson who has spent a lifetime making Australians laugh, but behind the humour is a deeply personal and confronting exploration of death, dying, grief, and the aged care system.
Catherine and Jean discuss how her own fear and avoidance of death transformed into advocacy and education around end-of-life care.

New Episode Tomorrow...
Catherine is joined by Jean Kittson who shares how growing up in a family that never spoke about death left her feeling frightened, unprepared, and emotionally disconnected from grief.
She reflects on the first time she saw a dead body, the misconceptions she held about palliative care, and the surprising warmth, humour, and humanity she discovered within the palliative care community.

In the new episode of Don't Be Caught Dead Catherine and Julian Kingma also talk about the changing media landscape, the ethics of documenting vulnerable moments, and what it means to witness someone’s final chapter with honesty and humanity. This episode is thoughtful, emotional, and incredibly important.
