Where do facelift scars go, and will people know you’ve had surgery?

Incisions are planned around the anatomy of the face, with careful consideration given to where they can be placed and concealed. The priority is to achieve appropriate surgical access while positioning scars as discreetly as possible.

But concealment is not considered in isolation. As Dr Peter Callan explains, the aim is to achieve the surgical result that is appropriate for the individual patient without compromising access simply to make an incision shorter or less visible.

Gravity works in one direction. A considered facelift accounts for that.

Over time, the skin and deeper soft tissues of the face gradually descend. Dr Peter Callan plans facelift surgery around the direction of that descent, using a multivector approach to reposition the tissues back towards their original position rather than simply pulling them laterally towards the ears.

As Dr Callan explains to patients, the principle is straightforward: put the tissues back where they were.
