Seventeen years ago I sold my beautiful horse, Dexter. After five years away from riding, this retreat was about more than getting back in the saddle—it was about reconnecting with a part of myself that never left.
Life often asks us to pause the things we love while we focus on family, work and responsibilities. This four-day retreat gave me space to slow down, breathe and reset.
I was drawn to Alycia Burton’s approach because it aligns so closely with my values. It’s not about control—it’s about trust, patience and respect. Horses, like people, thrive when they feel safe.
Alycia rescues horses many have labelled “broken” and helps them rebuild confidence through compassion and understanding. Watching that transformation is incredibly powerful.
Horses will always hold a special place in my heart. Even if they’re not part of my everyday life right now, reconnecting reminded me where I feel most grounded—out in nature, breathing deeply and feeling calm.
If you haven’t heard of Alycia Burton, I highly recommend looking her up. Her work with Goldrush is incredible, but what stood out most to me was the trust and connection behind it.
It’s funny how what fills my cup hasn’t really changed—horses, nature, kindness and connection.
Thank you, Alycia, for such a special experience. I came home with a full heart and a calm mind. 🤍🐴
If you’re a horse lover, do yourself a favour and search Alycia Burton & Goldrush on YouTube or Instagram. I think you’ll be just as inspired as I was.
