Pelvic floor exercises are NOT an overnight fix.
But the research is actually really encouraging… 🌸🌸😊

• By week 3, women saw up to a 46.9% decrease in symptoms
• Around 60% noticed a change within 1 month
• By weeks 4–6, over 70% had significant improvement
• By 12 weeks, almost everyone had improved

So why does it take longer for some women?
For many women, pelvic floor rehab is about improving coordination, awareness and learning how to properly relax and contract the muscles.

For others, it’s true muscle weakness and strength takes longer to build.

This is why consistency matters.

Progress isn’t always instant, but it IS happening.

There is so much more to your pelvic floor than just Kegels.

Pelvic floor exercises are not the magic fix and they’re definitely not the answer to 90% of pelvic floor concerns.

Your pelvic floor needs:
✨ Strength and relaxation
✨ Coordination with your breath
✨ Support from your core, hips, and whole body
✨ The ability to lengthen, not just tighten

HEALTHY BOWELS!!

If you’re only ever being told to “squeeze and lift,” you’re missing the bigger picture.

Symptoms like leakage, prolapse, pain, or heaviness aren’t solved by blindly doing more Kegels they’re solved by understanding how your body actually works.

Let’s move beyond the “just do your Kegels” advice 👀

Here are my top 3 cues to help you contract your pelvic floor effectively.

Have you ever wondered if you’re actually doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly? You’re not alone.

Many women are told to “do kegels” but aren’t shown how to properly activate the muscles.

Try these 3 simple cues:
1) Squeeze the a**s – often the most effective cue to activate the back passage and lift through the pelvic floor.
2) Hold onto a wee – imagine stopping the flow of urine (for cueing only, not while actually weeing).
3) Drink a smoothie through a straw – think of a gentle lift upward and inward.

Remember: the goal is a gentle squeeze and lift, not clenching your glutes, thighs or holding your breath.

If you’re struggling with symptoms such as leaking, heaviness, prolapse, urgency or pelvic pain, it’s best to see a women’s health physiotherapist for an individual assessment.

I’ve become more aware of how often women going through menopause feel dismissed, unheard, or simply told to “just deal with it.”

There are so many options available now — from hormonal support to pelvic health care, strength training, and lifestyle interventions — but many women aren’t being told what’s out there.

This is something I feel strongly about, and an area I want to continue learning, growing, and supporting more deeply in my practice.
