I always promote, “try the least invasive treatment method first, and if you’re not seeing the results you desire for your life, then consider medication.”
I don’t say that because medication is “bad” or harmful. I have been on ADHD medication and personally experience zero negative side effects (on stimulants). I say to try other approaches first so each client or parent can feel confident in their decision around medication, knowing they have tried everything.
Also, it is important to look at what else could support better outcomes such as improving sleep, diet/nutrition, exercise, supplements, less screen time etc etc
It’s ALL important. Our physical bodies require many different systems to support its functioning. They all have a unique but essential role in maintaining optimal functioning. This is how we need to start looking at mental health. There is no singular approach to treatment. It requires a multi-integrative approach to achieve best outcomes.
ADHD medication is a game-changer for many adults and children diagnosed with the condition. Hear what these families and individuals say about overcoming treatment hesitancy.
