🌬️ Mauri & Breath 🌬️
“Ko te manawa, te ora o te tinana.”
“Breath is the life of the body.”
Why is breath important for Mauri?
Science shows that the way we breathe directly influences our nervous system, heart, mind, and overall wellbeing.
Slow, conscious breathing can activate the body’s relaxation response. It may help reduce the stress response, steady the heart rate, improve oxygen exchange, and bring the mind back into the present moment.
These experiences can influence:
✨ Stress and anxiety
✨ Heart rate and blood pressure
✨ Focus and mental clarity
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Energy and vitality
In te ao Māori, the breath connects us to life.
Each breath moves through the tinana, settles the hinengaro, and creates space for the wairua. It reminds us that we are alive, connected, and supported.
Perhaps breath is something we often overlook because it happens naturally.
Perhaps conscious breathing is one of the simplest ways to guide Mauri back toward balance.
What does your breathing feel like when your body is calm?
🌿 A simple way to restore Mauri balance:
Take 5–10 slow breaths.
Breathe in gently through your nose for four counts, pause briefly, then breathe out slowly for six counts.
Allow your shoulders, jaw, and body to soften with each exhale.
One conscious breath can change the direction of your whole day.
