Last week, I entered the sacred water.
At Beji Griya Waterfall outside Ubud, I took part in Melukat, a traditional Balinese purification ceremony. The ceremony led me through shrines, caves, springs, prayer and waterfalls, into a landscape that felt both ancient and completely alive.
And then, under the water, something unexpected happened.
I met the gods of Bali alongside the strange collection of images I had carried since childhood: King Kong, a water slide, Catholic incense, holy water. Somehow, they all belonged in the same story.
I wrote about the experience — the ritual, the descent, the water, the memories it awakened, and what happened when my own mythology met an ancient one.
