They keep saying the latch looks good.

They keep saying well they’re definitely getting what they need as weight gain is good. Centiles are going up.

They also said the pain will go away eventually. But it hasn’t.

Or perhaps, there’s no pain yet the feeding journey feels chaotic. Unsettled. Not fun nor like the picture book. Your baby is struggling to feed peacefully.

Something just feels off.

It’s enough of a reason. And It can be the only reason.

Look no further.

A listening ear and a root cause analysis.

A colicky baby is stressful. Imagine it and X 10000%.

This was me. My first baby. I couldn’t fix him. And I felt broken. By the birth. By the screaming. By the fussy feeding. By the gas we couldn’t fix. Not even the ten years of midwifery beforehand could have prepared me for this.

The thing is colic is a symptom of many other things.

If this is you. Here are a few things you CAN do because colic is not fun. It can truly feel like the end of the world. I felt so helpless but you don’t have to.

1. See a lactation consultant. Even if your baby is gaining weight and you have no pain feeding (like me here) the feeding function can still be suboptimal and causing a baby a lot of gut discomfort. Especially if your babe fusses, coughs, chokes and pops off the breast a lot.

2. See a good bodyworker. Your baby’s body needs support to optimise digestion and tension.

3. Try homeopathics - they really can make a world of difference.

4. Fix your own nervous system - your baby reflects you. Seek ➡️ Bodywork. Massage. Breathe-work. CranioSacral.

5. Seek support. Talk about it. A friend. Whomever it is that you can open up to. See your GP and get some mental health sessions. There is no shame in this. Becoming a mother can be challenging in of itself and if your baby cries a lot your well being is under enormous strain.

6. Go outside. Daily. Sunshine. Fresh air. Feet on the earth. This can make a world of difference.

7. Try and accept your baby’s crying, I wish someone had told me this. A well held and supported baby won’t break from crying but your mission to stop the crying may break you! Some babies also have a lot of vocalising to do and we may just have to hold them through it.

8. Ear plugs or noise canceling ear phones can make it easier to hold space for the screaming.

9. Outsource the basics of your life. Ie. food, cleaning, washing. If you can do this - it’s really worth it.

10. Learn simple soothing techniques to help your Bub like tummy massage and movements such as alternate knee to the hip (there are many more than this).

I hope this helps someone. Because I know how hard it is.

To the mothers.
For the selflessness
For loving just because we do.
For the unconditional love that it is.

Always in awe of the mother. Every single one I meet. Including my own. Because I also have the knowing of the journey. We are each other. We are the thread. We hold the tapestry. We hold the power for it all.

I wish that your life is made a little easier today and that you also go easy on yourself.

After 20+ years as a midwife and IBCLC for 15 years, I can tell you this:

Latch issues are rarely just about the latch.

When we adjust positioning, tension, timing, and support —
things can change quickly.

When we truly ‘see’ the situation we can find the root cause and adjust accordingly.

💛 You don’t have to keep guessing
💛 And you don’t have to push through

Most “low milk supply” isn’t actually permanent low supply…

It’s usually small, fixable things I see every day like:

– Baby not transferring milk effectively
– Feeding patterns that aren’t quite supporting supply
- Strict scheduling
- Poor latching
- Oral function issues
– Mum being completely exhausted (which matters more than people realise)

When you’re in it though, it can feel really overwhelming and hard to know what to change.

It can also be easy to blame yourself when it is likely not you at all!

The good news? With the right tweaks, supply can often improve quite quickly 💛

I’ve put together a simple guide:
“Increase Milk Supply in 3 Days”

I shared this in my stories earlier — I’m going to keep it free for the next 48 hours, then it will become a paid resource.

If you’d like it, just message me SUPPLY and I’ll send it through x

The calling to come back here and share more and support mothers more has gotten really LOUD lately.

The past little while I’ve been focusing on family and working behind the scenes, but I’m really feeling called to support more mums again. Not just in the local community but further and wider too.

If you’re currently navigating breastfeeding, low supply, pain, or an unsettled baby — please know this is something you don’t have to figure out alone.

I’m opening a few same-day SOS feeding support calls this week for anyone needing immediate help.

Just message me “support ” and I’ll take care of you 💛
