But somehow the contraception burden always falls on women. Vasectomy has been available in India since 1954 and the non scalpel technique was introduced in 1992 to make it easier and more acceptable.

Yet vasectomy use has dropped from 3.31% to just 0.3% in the last 3 decades 😬

Why?

• Fear of the procedure
• Fear of losing libido
• Fear of weakness and not being able to work properly
• Social stigma and judgement
• Cultural beliefs
• Lack of awareness and misinformation
• Health system related barriers

Basically, a lot of men are still scared of vasectomy because of myths, stigma and fear rather than actual medical facts.

The review looked at 24 studies from across India and found that better education and awareness could help increase acceptance.
