👅 New service offering at Polar Speech Pathology!

We’re so excited to share that SP Giordarna is now offering AOMC Oro-facial Myology services at Polar Speech Pathology.

Oro-facial myology looks at how the tongue, lips, jaw, face and mouth muscles work together for everyday functions like:
✨ breathing
✨ chewing
✨ swallowing
✨ speech clarity
✨ oral resting posture
✨ feeding skills

This support may be helpful for children who experience things like mouth breathing, tongue thrust, tricky chewing or swallowing patterns, unclear speech sounds, oral habits, or concerns around tongue function.

At Polar Speech Pathology, our approach is always child-led, strengths-based and neuro-affirming. We work gently and collaboratively with families, and where needed, alongside other professionals such as dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, Chiropractors and other allied health providers.

📍Appointments with SP Giordarna are now available.

To learn more or book an appointment, contact the Polar Speech Pathology team.

“Reconciliation lives in what we do next.”

This National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on this year’s theme: All In.

For us, being “all in” means more than sharing a post. It means continuing to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action in the spaces where we work, play, communicate, and connect.

As a paediatric speech pathology practice, we recognise the importance of culture, identity, language, family, community, and story in every child’s life.

We acknowledge the strength, knowledge, histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We also acknowledge that reconciliation requires truth-telling, humility, relationships, and ongoing commitment — not just during this week, but every day.

At Polar Speech Pathology, we are committed to creating safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces for children and families.

We are listening. We are learning. We are all in.

“Some stories must be remembered so healing can continue.” 🖤☀️♥️

Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the deep grief, strength, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As people who work alongside children and families, we recognise that healing begins with listening, truth-telling, respect, and relationships.

At Polar Speech Pathology, we are committed to walking gently, learning continuously, and creating spaces where every child’s culture, identity, communication, and story are honoured.
We say sorry.
We remember.
We stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities — today and always.

🌈🌟Resource Highlight 🌟🌈

Play-Doh!

Play-Doh is an awesome and engaging tool for Speech Therapy and can support a range of different activities such as:
👉 Building rapport and social connection
👉 Following and giving instructions (e.g., on how to make fun creations)
👉 Speech sound drills
👉 Segmenting sounds for literacy
👉 Telling stories and learning new vocabulary
👉 And so much more!

Sometimes the best therapy tools are the simplest ones! Play-Doh is versatile, motivating, and easy to adapt across goals.

Thanks to our lovely Clinic Coordinator, Lynette, we have a fresh set of colourful Play-Doh to support our clients! 🌈

At our practice, learning never stops ✨

Each month, our team comes together for a Lunch & Learn session where one of our Speech Pathologists presents on a topic they’re passionate about. It’s a chance to share knowledge, explore new ideas, and continue growing as clinicians - all while enjoying lunch together 🍴

From communication strategies to evidence-based practice updates, these sessions help us stay curious, connected, and committed to providing the best support for our clients 💬

We love creating a culture of collaboration and lifelong learning 💛

Meet Lizzi 👋

Lizzi is the speech pathologist and owner behind Polar Speech Pathology. She is passionate about creating therapy spaces where children feel safe, understood, and celebrated for who they are.

Lizzi takes a neuro-affirming, child-led, and strengths-based approach, supporting each child’s communication in ways that are meaningful, playful, and practical for everyday life.

When she’s not in therapy sessions, Lizzi is busy dreaming up ways to make speech pathology feel more connected, respectful, and empowering for families.

We’re so lucky to have Lizzi leading the Polar Speech Pathology team. 🐻‍❄️✨

We’re proud to donate a Woolworths Everyday Wish gift card to the Malvern Springs PS P&C Mother’s Day raffle, being drawn tonight! 💐

At Polar Speech Pathology, we believe in giving back to our local community, especially during a time when many families are feeling the pressure of rising cost of living and fuel prices. ⛽️

We’ve long been supporters of Malvern Springs Primary School and are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them to support local families. Wishing everyone the best of luck in the raffle! 🍀
